Vollmer. But then what do the Pats do at RT?

Todd Light is still an above average LT, he knows the system, why cut him? Because he had one bad game? The Patriots had a top 5 line before the San Diego game. Bad games happen.

A agree that a high pick should be used at the position, but am not ready to turn on Light yet.

Trade Light to the KC Chieftans for a couple of practice footballs. Kaczur will be finished when he can't come back from his back surgery. As it was, he wasn't very good.

LeVoir or Maneri at RT or a rookie draft pick like Camini out of Wisconsin.

Sebastian Vollmer, is the LT of the future but Kaczur, is not a good RT so if the pats do not spend a hign round pick on a OT then they should bring back Light,

and lets not forget that this may just be Neal, last year. and Mankins, could walk next year. and Koppen, is far from a all pro IMO the OL's weakness is not at OT but inside at G and C

You understand the poll well. There could be another choice. I could have included the possbility that Vollmer is not probowl material, but is currently competent to be our LT, and a better choice that Light or a draftee.

I don't believe that a marginally competent VOllmer should be moved from RT to LT. Therefore, I only included the possibility of him moving over if he improves some.'

Personally, I prefer Vollmer as a RT.

So Vollmer needs to be an all pro, or incompetent? That seems fair.

I'll take competent now Vollmer

I said he was competent, not marginal at all. that would be an improvement IMO. He's relatively green but outplayed a veteran at LT. Total waste to keep him at RT.

He also has the potential, based on foot speed, wing span and size to be very good.

Better than what we have now, potential to be very good. As opposed to struggling with half the pass rushers in the league and having no potential to get better. Of course he could be all pro. If Light was an all pro LT he should be five times.

Light outplayed Vollmer last year. Light's outplayed Vollmer this year.

Vollmer is quicker, rangier, taller and has a better wingspan. You'd expect a vet of many seasons to be better than a foreigner still relatively new to the game, but I've never seen Vollmer embarassed like Light is every time anyone with speed faces him.

Light gets destroyed, it's impossible not to see it if you have eyes.

Maybe he can teach Vollmer this technique, and lend him his cape, ole.

Light will be 33 next year with high mileage. This is the age when these guys can't get it done anymore. Some can make it through age 34 and 35, but most are much less effective. Better to get out a year early. Round 1 - OL and DL Round 2 OL and DL Round 3 OL and DL and running backs with the rest of our picks...

Vollmer already has it down pat, as I re-watched the SD game.

I never claimed Light was perfect. I simply stated that he's been better than Vollmer and continues to be so. The second claim does not require the first to make it correct.

First, it is a little too early to be be worrying about the starting line up in 2011.

Second, I know people love to dump on Light, but other than last weekend he has had a pretty good season. He is still an above average LT.

Third, I am a little concerned that Vollmer has had a bit of a sophomore slump. Prior to last week, he has had more problems with blocking than Light. Unless he turns it around, I don't know if I trust him blocking Brady's blindside.

I agree. From several different accounts, he seems to have gotten lazy with his technique and relied more on his athleticism.

And it's also not really a good question because it looks at one position on the line in a vacuum. Vollmer sounds like a much better option than Light, but would you rather have Light and Vollmer as your tackles like now, or Vollmer and Kaczur, or some unknown FA/JAG type manning the right side because Light can play RT?

The Patriots won't need a left tackle, or any other players, for that matter since there won't be any football next year. But the draft in the Spring will take place and loading up at every position where the Pats are long in the tooth is a must. The youth movement has been shrewd with the state of the CBA and the very high likelihood that we'll be watching Heidi or replacement players. The offensive line and RB are the two positions (other than QB) where age is an issue. Look for no movement in free agency after the season prior to the lockout and the Pats to use all their picks on players that closely match their oldest starters.

The thing about the lockout though is what happens to players you draft that year who don't play and don't sign. I would assume that they would become free agents again next year and you could have wasted your draft picks.
