I think that it is useful to understand that the PUP and NFI lists are small and players who have practiced are uneligible. None can be ADDED to the potential PUP list.
Players who have practiced either will make the team, be cut or be out for the year on the IR. Some will signed to the Practice Squad, but any team can sign them from there.
Players on NFI are also on PUP and cannot practice. What seperates them from other players on PUP or IR is that they are not entitled to salary or bonus due under their contract.
IIRC while teams aren't required to pay the players on NFI, the teams can, at their option decide to pay them like the Pats did after Bruschi's stroke.
Yeah, and that punter who chopped into his own leg with an axe while giving a motivational speech. Can't recall the team, but they paid him.
