Who has a good feeling about this game

At the store today, we were talking about this game, and how it feels almost as similar as both AFC Championship games vs the Steelers. Hearing about a great pass rush and defense and how it will give us issues. Hearing about how we are facing a great run game which will give us fits. But, throughout the week, I have become more relaxed. Sort of like playing poker with house money, if you win, you double up, if you lose, its not your money anyway. It feels like the "Us vs The World" mentality from the SB 36 playoff run is back. I think this team is going to come out with a chip on its shoulder. Something tells me the best of this team is yet to come.

Then again, I don't think anyone should take anything from that, since I haven't had a good feeling about a sporting event in which I have had a rooting interest in about 20 years.

The NFL playoffs is absolute misery. If you're winning, it seems like the game takes forever, if you're losing, the timeouts still take forever, but that foul feeling in the pit of your stomach as the other team flirts with your side of the field or picks up a 3d down conversion after you've made two good defensive plays is very difficult.

I hate everything about watching the Patriots in the playoffs, unless it's like last week after Asante returned the interception. Even then I was worried about a freak injury.

"Good feeling"? Bottom line is I don't have the constitution to even understand the freaking question. What does any of this have to do with feeling good? Feeling good? There's no feeling good. This is sports.

Sports is a freaking tough gig. The losing sucks way more than the winning feels good and it never gets any better even after you win 3 superbowls in 4 years. I tell myself that it's all gravy, but F that. I want them to win this game in the worst way, and there is nothing about it that will feel good unless and until we're at least one point better when the clock says zero.

That being said, I do consider this season a wash to date. From this point forward we can only gain.

I feel better and better as we get closer to game time.
I like a BB defense against a Rivers/Schotty led offense.
I like Brady's ability to read and react to the SD blitz.
I like NE's offense to slow down Merriman with screens and the like.
SD is good, but I say Pats win.

I feel pretty much the same way. I think the Chargers are a bit overrated - they beat up on a weak division and a weak schedule, and the Pats are playing their best football right now.

The one thing that worries me is that we are facing a team coming off a bye and we have to fly across the country. Home teams coming off the bye historically win over 79% of the division round games.

we didnt play a great schedule either and SD won 10 in a row so they have played their football down the stretch too with injuries in D line...
the only reason anyone would pick the pats is because of history and credentials IMO...the way the seasons played out for both teams + the all important first round bye which a lot a people seemed have ignored to mention makes it easy for anyone neutral to expect the chargers to win
last yr we blew out jax and everyone was picking us to win at DEN and we didnt ..refs or no refs we had 5 turnovers then

Yeah, I hear ya. It happens when you care so much about your sports team winning. I remember feeling elated when the Celtics were marching into the playoffs in 2002 and feeling the lowest of lows when they were humbled by the Nets. It was painful, because I emotionally invested in them and they couldn't go the distance, and I had to deal with the trolls afterward. I think with the Patriots having their dynasty, it raises the expectation level, so anything short of a Super Bowl title is a disappointment.

I remember last year and the bitter taste in my mouth afterward, and steaming all year waiting to get to this point so that the Patriots can make things right this time around. What we have to remember is that as fans there is nothing we can do but cheer our team and hope for the best. It's nerve racking but it can be rewarding. I'm just trying to appreciate what we have with the Patriots today. Consistency that has eluded our fanbase ever since the end of the Celtics dynasty in the 80's.

I am genuinely worried. SD is and should be the favorite.

IF (and when) the pats win, I will once again be dazzled. No taking things for granted here.....

I think the Chargers deserve to be favored in the game. If the Pats pull this out I will once again be impressed with them to the same degree as in prior play off runs. This feels just like the 2001 Steelers playoff game to me. I felt like that would be a tough game.

Nothing the pats have done this year has really blown me away yet. Stomping on the Jets was a good start, as well as beating the Jags. The Bears game was a little messy to feel incredibly great about, but I'll take it.

If they can handle the best team in the AFC, I will certainly have that same feeling of great achievement as some of our recent seasons. The Chargers are a threat.

I never once worried about the Jets game. I just never thought for a second that they could beat us if we played focused. Even if it was in their backyard.

This game I have not let myself get optimistic about even one time because it is going to be a tough game until the end, and I want to be on an even keel and roll with the punches. The Pats will need to roll with the punches, as well.

Yesterday's Indy win over Baltimore has put me in a good frame of mind. It reminded me that in games at this level, that the spread and the supposed talent comparisons mean squat. Even when you can't imagine an upset in the furthest recesses of your mind, they happen, and happen frequently.

The Pats themselves are 4-0 against #1 seeds in the last 5 years. This game is no different than the Indy game a few years ago when they were annihilating people and we held them to 3 points.

The Patriots are more than capable of winning this game.
