McDaniels and Mallet for Gordon

McDaniels and Mallet for Gordon
Is McD worth a first round pick? Mallet might be a 6th.

Maybe hold them out until Houston/Washington is filled (those seem liek decent jobs, though Snyder makes it tough, but RG3 could be useful with the right system).

Why ppl here are so keen to ditch Mallett?

Because people have an inflated sense of his worth on the trade market for some reason and think he could net a 1st round pick or one of the best WRs in football.

He can't.

If we could get Gordon for him, we'd be crazy not to make that trade. But that's completely absurd and will never happen. For what the Pats might actually get in return, he's probably not worth trading. There just isn't a huge market for backup quarterbacks nearing the end of their rookie contracts who have yet to play a meaningful NFL snap.

Yep people forget that Matt Cassel played a full season winning 11 games and the pats still had to throw in Mike Vrabel just to get a 2th round pick for him

There was a special factor there in that Cassell had a contract to be overpaid by $7 million or so for one season.

Charlie Casserly pointed out on NFL Network, that regards tradeing Kurt Cousins. Redskins should have 2x2 or a 1 round pick, else he would be worth more for them as a backup. Infact i see the same with Mallett.

We going with 2 QBs on the roster because we got Mallett as backup. He's worth more then ppl think for BB and Patriots.

I like Mallett a lot and would be happy to keep him but with the Hernandez situation and Wilfork coming off a major injury we could really use the influx of an extra pick or two.

Mallett would probably get a #2 and a conditional pick. If I were looking for a QB I'd take him over any QB in this year's draft other than Bridgewater and maybe over him too. This year's QB draft is deep but sucky.

I would also consider trading Ridley if we re-sign Blount. Ridley only has a year left and if we aren't going to sign him long term we could probably get a couple of mid round picks for him.

I would HATE to see the Pats give up on Ridley.

He won't have much trade value for the same reason that RBs rarely go in the first round anymore: because you can get good running backs in the middle rounds of the draft. Knowing that, nobody's going to offer enough in a trade to make it worth trading him.

Even if he leaves in FA after 2014, it won't be because he broke the bank somewhere else. It'll be because Belichick prioritized locking up Vereen (who has a more unique skill set), and figures that Ridley's production can be replaced on a cost-controlled basis with a middle-round pick.

Its not about ditching him its more about moving him to a place where he can actually play because I don't see him starting for us anytime soon. If you can move mallet for anything higher than a 4, I think you pull the trigger. I figured my post would be seen as an obvious joke especially considering how teams don't trade for coordinators.

Would most teams give up a first round pick for him? Nope but all it takes is one. If Trent Richardson can net a first round pick in this league, there are a lot of other players who can whom you wouldn't expect as well. Especially if a GM thinks he's a franchise QB which idk why anybody would think that.

And this is for the guy that completed 52% of his passes this season for 5.5 YPA, 4 TDs, 7 picks, 2 lost fumbles, and supposedly numerous more passes that should have been picked.

I will say, it's kind of ridiculous how most fans (not necessarily Pats fans) think that Cousins has value but Mallett doesn't. Is no game film really worse than bad game film? It's especially unimportant when you consider that there's probably about a 95% chance that if Mallett is traded, it's to either McDaniels' team or O'Brien's, two guys who have been Mallett's position coach. There's probably nobody in the NFL who has seen more of Mallett than McDaniels over the last two years. If McDaniels wants to trade for Mallett, then the lack of game film means just about nothing. Any rookie he'd draft would come in with zero NFL game film and no practice experience with McDaniels. Mallett is far more of a "sure thing" than any rookie McDaniels could pick.

This, of course, is assuming that McDaniels has liked what he's seen out of Mallett in practice, and there's really no reason to think otherwise. Everything out of NE has been that the coaches have been very impressed, and it was less than a month after Daboll re-joined the Patriots when Schefter said that Daboll thought Mallett could have been an NFL starting QB during the 2012 season.

The Redskins aren't going to get 2 2nd picks for Kirk Cousins (and given RG3's injury issues, he is worth more as a backup), and the Patriots aren't getting a 2nd round pick for Ryan Mallett. This is a good draft for late 1st to 2nd round QBs. There aren't that many teams that need a QB - Houston, Minnesota, Jacksonville, Cleveland, Oakland, Arizona, maybe Chicago - and several of those teams figure to take their guy in the 1st round, and one will snap up Jay Cutler.

Trent Richardson was the third overall pick and had nearly 1000 yards in his rookie year. It was a horrible trade, but it made a lot more sense than any of the crap bandied about for Mallett.

The Patriots traded Vrabel to allow him to continue his playing career. Otherwise, he was being cut. It also freed up money on the salary cap for the Pats.

Gotta love when people insist on changing history.

Anyone who would trade for Kirk Cousins ahead of Ryan Mallett needs their head examined as a GM. On one hand, you have a highly rated slider who has spent several seasons as the back up to arguably the greatest of all time under the best Head Coach, a bevy of excellent OCs and the best owner in the NFL. On the other hand, you have a highly rated slider who has spent 2 seasons as the back up to RG3 with unstable leadership and questionable coaching relationships.

If you're going to give up picks, I know which player I'd be trying to pry away.

mallet is at best worth a 4th.

The amount of qb's coming in the draft is insane, add to that cutler, Cambel, Flynn(solid performances for the packers) as well as some people about to get second chances(gabbert, Sanchez,) and third(Henne) Mallet isnt worth what people seem to think.

QBs are valuable, if more than one team wants Mallet he'll go for a 2nd (Brownies have a ton of picks).
