Where Is The Sweet Spot For Us To Draft An LT?

I agree with Lazar.

Personally, I think taking a LT at 4 unless he is a generational talent is too high. Has nothing to do with arm length. And is Campbell that much better than any of the guys who might be taken late in the first or early second where the Pats could draft a LT with some maneuvering.

With the signing of Diggs, I am going to predict that the chances of the first pick being an offensive tackle have vastly improved.
Unless you think signing Diggs means they'd pass on Carter/Hunter, the chances of the first pick being OT are exactly the same as before.

I just said to @bakes781 in the draft forum I can see a scenario where Campbell, Banks, Simmons, Membou, Conley, and Ersery are all gone before #38. I think OT/LT is easily over drafted, even in a thin year like this year. IMO I would not get too cute. If you have, say Campbell or Banks earmarked on your big board behind Hunter and Carter, then if there's no trade partner, you have to pick 'em at #4. If you think Ozzy Trapilo is your future LT, then you can get back in to R2, but you run the risk of not being able to deal to get in.
The chances are extremely high that all 6 will all be gone by 38, if not by 28 or so. Anyone advocating that we take Carter or Hunter at 4 must be assuming we can trade up from 38 to the mid-20's for our OT, which is a huge risk. We must ABSOLUTELY land one of these 6 guys, so we need to be picking him either in the top 12 (to get one of Campbell-Membou-Banks), or in the 20-25 range (to get Simmons-Conley-Ersery).

- I'd trade down with Chicago to 10. The Bears own two 2nd rounders 39 & 41, so we'll take 41. With #10, take the OT - say Banks.
- we'd then own 38, 41, 69, 77, & 106 in rounds 2-4.
- move up from 38 to 24 by giving up picks 77 and 106, and take a weapon like Golden or Hampton
- we'd still have a 2nd (41) and a 3rd (69), and could do a small move down from either one to replace our 4th rounder

I like this plan.

Prob grew his fingernails out

God but this OT draft **** is complex. One day I'm yes this guy for sure, then next day its someone else and that's only in the morning. Might change my mind a couple of times in the afternoon. Come on people help me out here.

Here's the PFF OT big board rankings

6 Campbell
11 Membou
18 Simmons
20 Banks
29 Zabel
34 Connerly
60 Esery
74 Trapillo
76 Mbow
87 Savaiinea
90 Milum
92 Cam Williams
97 Charles Grant
98 Belton

Campbell, Membou potential picks at 4 (not ideal) or slight trade back.

Banks, Simmons trade back to mid round

Connerly, Esery - likely need a trade up into the 20s to get ahead of Texans and Chiefs

Trapillo - Early round 3

Belton or Grant - late round 3 or early 4.
I've seen another where Campbell-Membou-Banks go from 4-10, then Simmons-Connerly-Ersery from 25-31.

Give me one of those 6 in round 1, then take a 2nd dip in round 3 or 4.

We got another full month of this...

Even with Diggs, I still would like Hunter at 4 (if there) and a LT (Esery or Conerly) at 38. If those two are not available, then Trapillo later.

If no Hunter (or Carter) available at 4, then Campbell (his arms grew to 33" since last month!) at 4 or a trade down for Banks et al in the 10s. Need a trade partner though.

For whatever it's worth, it was reported earlier today that Will Campbell's Arms measured-in at 33" at his Pro Day. I suspect that if he's brought in for a Pre-Draft Visit, the Patriots will measure his arms for themselves (as most teams usually take various measurements on their 30 allowed Pre-Draft Visit's).

I am cool with Campbell, they need to keep maye healthy and be able to run the ball to the left side. He helps on both fronts.

The Campbell pick is OK with me because he can be the starting LT right now and the starting LG of the future. Can keep Campbell+Strange on the left side for now, which will be perfectly fine, but when you eventually find a better LT prospect in the next few years, you bump Campbell to LG.

Image of Campbell working out with his trainer to prepare for his pro day.

Will Campbell's training staff, working on getting those measurements up:

I heard an interview with Campbell. He's pissed about all the arm length talk and says that coaches know better than the draftniks. I love his makeup. If he was was drafted and struggled or was just meh as an OT, I could see him being pissed off about moving to guard.

From what I'm reading on the draft board, none of the WR are anything more than career backups other than Hunter.
