If Maye is ready you can't wait for the line to be perfect or for the skill group to be better. They can improve together.

They have 2 guys they know are starters, and just one of them is 100% nailed to his position. Three spots are in flux, including the most important one. Thanks to the Strange injury, the whole left side is a black hole.

It may be too much to ask of them to field good protection at any point this season. There may be some decent games against bad pass rushers, and games where AVP cooks something up and the line looks good, but that's unlikely to feel like the norm or that the problem was solved.

Until they can answer the question of who plays LT and LG. They really should look for a RT to put Owenu back inside.

This line could be arguably worse than last season - which was really bad.

Assuming decent health, I would say by week 4 or 5. If they were returning all five starters, even if they weren't top notch guys, I'd say it would be week one. But it's at least 2, possibly 3 new starters, new OL coach, new OC, new system. These things take time to gel. If Maye is ready, I don't want to wait any longer than that, but giving them a month to build some cohesion would benefit everyone IMO.

To me there are three factors in play. The first being the OL itself establishing continuity even with known limitations, the second being AVP installing game plans that do not require the OL to hold blocks for a long time and finally Maye maturing to the point where he can execute the quick hit offense in the NFL. The first two need to happen within the first six weeks regardless of who starts to define the teams identity while Maye continues his development to the point where he earns the starting job.

LEFT TACKLE
Are you arguing that Okorafor, Anderson and Wallace are worse than Lowe, McDermott and Wheatly? Really? If that's true, then simply cut Anderson and keep Lowe and Okorafor at LT and swing OT. That would be an improvement. 2 of Okorafor, Anderson and Wallace is likely to be much better.

GUARD
Strange was injured and not very good when he played. Mafi played a lot. We could have Mafi and Sow at the guards again. With a year of experience, they should be better than last year. HOWEVER, we should be able a better combination if we add Robinson and Leverett into the mix. For example, Sow could move to LG and Mafi or Robinson start at RG. Perhaps, Wallace could start at LG. There are many possibilities. The main pint is that having Mafi and Sow as second year starters should be an improvement.

Whys is Sow not a lock to be a starter?

We can do better, but just starting Okorafor instead of Lowe at LT should be an improvement, with Mafi at LG as he was most of last year.

We could also see Onwenu moved back to his best position, guard, and Wallace in at RT. Then Sow at the other guard spot and one of Okorafor or Anderson at LT.

When they acquire Tristan Wirfs or Christian Darrisaw in a trade (but not involving us giving up our 1st round pick in the 2025 Draft), or drafting Will Campbell in the 2025 Draft (or drafting a LT of similar talent level in 2025).

Im confident it can be a reasonable line. C, rg, rt are in a good place imo with andrews, sow, onwenu. Between chuks, wallace, Anderson, j andrews, leverett, robinson, i think its a decent chance you land 2 serviceable players.

Its alot like wr to me where it probably isn’t going to be ideal but we will be well ahead of where we were last year.
