anyone have the past times that 24 and 28 has gone down?
believe me i watch the entire draft every yr
but a relative might be on her way out
i feel bad even asking, since it shows that i still wanna see the picks
but im not even sure if im visiting yet
only way i am is if my rents come into beantown this weekend (since i havent owned a car in yrs cuz i rely on the greatness (sarcasm) that is known as the t)
so yeah, anyone know what times it averages at?

Most teams take close 15 minutes and there's always some lag time, so 10 to 15 minutes per pick is a good guess.

I think the first team goes on the clock about 5 minutes after official start time, so the first pick is typically 20 minutes in, and then just do the math. (I don't really understand why they put the first team on the clock at all. Why can't they just start the show with the first pick? Put the team on the clock before the show starts.)

So, 6 hours is a good guess. If you wait much more than 4hours, though, you're at risk in the event there's a quick draft or a few teams move quickly. My prediction is that right about the start of hour 6 (so just after about 5 hours) is when the first pick will occur, but I'm only guessing.

Since we don't pick in the top 5... I predict I will be drunk by the time we do!

That's only if we don't trade up.

I would figure on an average of of about 12 minutes per pick. With all the trade offers that occur, most teams use their full allotment throughout round 1.

Just about this day of the week before Draft Day every year I get conflicted. Should I spend a nice Spring Saturday in the house or go out, be with my kids, get some stuff done and enjoy the day?

Last year I compromised by following the Draft on the Internet via my Blackberry. I timed the Pats pick and made sure I was home for it. A compromise that worked for me. You can follow every pick, you don't have to listen to Mel Kiper (Jr.) et al. repeat again and again what they've been saying over and over for the past six weeks, you can watch the Pats' first picks on the Plasma and be with the family or get stuff done.

I find the first day of the draft tough to watch. I just check on espn every now and again if I can and then tune in selectively.

In the past nine drafts, the average first-round pick took 9 minutes, 46 seconds. The slowest first round took 10 minutes, 53 seconds per pick, and the fastest took 8 minutes, 19 seconds per pick.

TiVo or DVR it...that way if you time it to 3:25 for the pats and found out they traded up then you can rewind it...

PD.
