I can't put my finger on it, but somewhere, down deep in my gut, I just get the feeling that grown men shouldn't be wearing the name jerseys of other men.
It's always been a little weird for me. I do think its great for kids, teenagers - and especially hot chicks (hey, even not so hot chicks... its just cool to see so many girl football fans - and SMART girl football fans are especially cool) to wear player jerseys.
Just something about grown men wearing them that I find really weird.
(snip)
But obviously I'm in the minority, as a lot of fans like to show they are fans (and I do wear my Patriots hats and Patriots shirts proudly) but I just wanted to get that off my chest (so to speak!)
While I don't wear the named jerseys, it is for other reasons. They are expensive and I never get around to it. I almost never buy my own clothes. That's why I have a daughter and wife. Let them buy my clothes. They don't know a single football player so they can't buy me the named jersey. Plus the price tag would choke them.
I have massive Patriots gear, but $200 for a jersey is too much for a gift.
I passed on a Patriots necktie a few weeks back. I am still regretting that.
I have had these Jerseys: Jan Stenerud (I'm not kidding). I wish I still had it, actually as it was an actually worn by the player authentic jersey. It was way too big for me when I was a kid, but it was the smallest of the three jerseys a friend of the family got for my brother, sister and I. Me being the youngest got the kicker jersey.
Brisby (again not kidding). I have no idea what happened to that one either.
Grogan. I still have it, but don't wear it. I once bought a Van Halen Staing tour jacket for $80 in 1982. I never wore it because I thought it'd be cool to break it out years later. I broke it out and it was all discolored and faded. Not to mention it would look really geeky wearing faded black satin with a Van Halen logo on the back. Anyway, I am hoping the Grogan Jersey will just make me look cool when I finally decided I delay gratification long enough.
Marino (no, not kidding) I found this in a closeout bin long ago and bought it for my buddy. I never got around to giving it to the guy. I sort of just forgot I had it until it was time to make a clothing donation and out it went. I probably had this one the longest of all of them.
