What if Mac Jones and Jaylen Waddle are available at 15?

I don't know what videos you watch. The two I posted looked good in both areas. While most won't consider him as a top 5 guy in this draft, he still has good mechanics and may be a very good QB on the NFL.

I don’t need to watch videos. I’ve watched probably 90% of the games he’s played in throughout his career. In real time. I live in SEC Country. A&M is on quite frequently. There’s a reason he’s not a Day 1 guy. I just specified that reason. His ability to be consistently accurate when throwing into tight windows is a big reason why Alabama blew them out last season, and it arguably cost them a shot at the playoff (though I’ve always been of the opinion that they should have gotten in anyway over Ohio State).

I just can't see either one of those 2 falling to 15, i doubt they fall out of the top 10

Pitts will never fall that far down to 15th overall so the discussion is purely hypothetical (such as what one would do if they won the lottery). But for the sake of discussion, if Pitts falls that far down you take him and deploy him on the perimeter like a receiver while also giving him the year to learn how to play the TE position in the pros. He’s that great of a weapon. Gronk was used that way plenty of times before. After the season then you assess the position and decide whether to keep as is or try to move one of the two starters. The focus should be on getting one of the premiere QB prospects with their first rounder but if a special, standout talent like Waddle or Pitts falls to that spot then you make an exception. Many people make the mistake of believing you have to draft for need and not consider value. Damien Harris wasn’t a need when we drafted him two years ago into a loaded RB group but we’re glad we have him now.

Inline blocking. He’s got plus marks for his downfield run blocking effort. Not to mention, he’s 6’7. There isn’t a DB in the league that he can’t cause havoc for, simply by lining up against. Dude has 35.5 inch arms. That’s a clear 3-6 inch reach advantage on Any LB or DB he goes up against. If he can get his hands on you, he's taking your lunch.

the radio guys said waddle was not going to run at Alabama’s pro day tomorrow, but smith was going to get weighed!

they also said they thought smith would run over 4.5. If that happens, he could fall in the draft despite great tape.

I am not so sure of that. There seems to be a trend these days to take big galoot OL guys, tackles especially, in the first half the first round. I think it is less risky for nervous GMs. With a QB, WR, or, especially, a CB pick, it is so easy to publically flame out, and it is so obvious--a CB who cannot cover is pretty obvious (as is a WR who cannot get open, oops...). Anyway, with an OL pick, I think that the pick is usually safer, albeit less spectacular.

Really? Whenever a skill player decides not to run, it is a huge red flag for me. He is usually covering something up., but it might just be an injury. Seems odd that Waddle would opt out; he has incredible speed on the field. Maybe he is not a track guy and maybe cannot get out of the blocks, etc., but on the field you can see him walk away from top-ranked CBs.

He's still recovering from an ankle injury. They have another pro day next week; he might run then. Neither he nor Smith need to do anything, however. Their tape is as good as it gets.

It’s definitely an injury, Fred. He injured his ankle in the Tennessee game on a kickoff return then was clearly still hobbled in the National Championship.

That being said, if it’s between Jones & Waddle at 15, take Jones. Pats need a #1 receiver, not another #3 receiver. Waddle isn’t even as good as Ruggs. Ruggs is a #2 or #3 receiver.

I have a feeling you're going to be very disappointed. These quarterbacks are way overrated.
Mac Jones is a late first, early second quarterback. Trey Lance is a third-round development project. A Fields is a late first-rounder.
