What has held the Pats back for the last 2 years?

His deep throws are the rainbow type and just prone to be intercepted. Mac can't make this throw and every NFL game plan needs such capability.

They are. I'll agree. He also made some great deep throws this season.. of course with the ALL PRO WRs in Parker and reagor they were dropped .

Patricia did not instruct Jones to lose.

The Pat's allowed Jones freedom in 2022. The Pat's let Jones swing for the fences and air it out.
Of course MP did not instruct Mac to lose. Because he had no track record as an OC there was doubt about the source of the disfunction which made it hard to evaluate Mac who got another chance to establish himself this year. With similar results under BOB, it is obvious that Mac was a big part of the problem. Now pretty much everyone agrees that Mac is not the future of the team.

Mac is damaged. New England will move on and so will he.

What if the Krafts let BB go but then give Mac his fifth year option thinking BB messed Mac up and that he can be reclaimed. How will the BB must go crowd feel about this? It will be hilarious.

I think the difference is with Zappe instead of Jones the Patriots offense looks like a real NFL offense. Maybe not a good NFL offense, but its at least a start.

I don't see how we could revert back to Mac. So many games in a row with insanely bad INT's and other mistakes - he was given plenty of opportunity. Zappe has clearly outplayed him with the same OL/WR situation. Hopefully we can get a 3rd or 4th rounder for Mac and wish him well.

As far as the OP's point, OL instability was the #1 culprit, which was accentuated by a QB who needed OL stability more than most QB's. Zappe's ability to step up and throw accurately while running forward is just what this OL needed.

Hind sight is 20/20. Even though things have not turned out well, choosing Mac and giving him adequate time to adjust to the NFL was the right decision. The MP debacle delayed the assessment process a year.
It gave everyone an excuse to ignore the obvious.

Buh bye Mac Jones.
