What does Brace tell us about the Wilfork contract?

I just think we could have gotten starting help at other positions where this is a pure backup pick.

That's what I love about Belichick. He is always thinking about all 53 positions on the roster. Each one is important. Having a big fattie nose tackle to spell Wilfork and keep a fresh d-line is an important team concept Belichick.

Likewise, improving the team's negotiating position with a veteran contract by adding young depth at the position is an important concept.

Reaching for a guy as a starter who doesn't grade out as a starter is a fool's errand (see Davis, Al). Better to fill an equally important need at one of the other 53 roster spots.

Remember, with the salary cap, it's a zero sum game. Overpaying viz-a-viz production on the field always hurts your team's ability to put the best team on the field.
