What do you guys like better - Summertime or end of summer?

I love summer time and would never trade it for the world! I am always bummed when September rolls around and I have not accomplished all the things I thought about doing in June. However, the start of the football season GREATLY diminishes any depression I feel!

I live in Port Richey (near Tampa). I would agree that Clearwater, St Pete and Pinellas County in general are way better than Tampa the city. Tampa is kinda all business and dirty while Pinellas is fun and more refined.

I do miss Boston somtimes but I definitely don't miss Massachusetts, if that makes sense to anyone.

From November to April it is just about perfect here. Nothing beats Xmas in shorts and a t shirt. I actually look forward to winter now, its a strange feeling.

Unless you live in Boston proper you'd probably hardly notice the difference between the Tampa burbs and Boston burbs. Its kinda hard to enjoy Boston anyways when the closest house you can afford is 50 miles away, especially when thats 50 miles of snow covered roads.

Speaking of cities, I just came back from vacation in Wash DC this past weekend. I enjoyed doing the tourist thing but I gotta say that is one lameass city. I couldn't wait to come home. People always say Boston is a wannabe New York but DC is the biggest wannabe city I have ever seen. It kinda thinks of itself as a world class city when in reality its a joke. The funny part is seeing people go ape**** over the museums. I'd put the Museum of Science, Museum of Fine Arts and History museums near Harvard over that crap in DC any day. No wonder some politicians fly home every weekend.

The Metro was the only thing I was impressed with, makes the T look like a short bus. That is something Tampa could definitely use (above ground of course).

Most streets are actually 6 lane roads if that's what you enjoy. It does make it easier to get out of town.

I'd love the name of the beach that's 15 minutes away.

I lived almost on the water in Gulfport and it took about 15 minutes to get to Ft. DeSoto Beach which is the close beach to Tampa according to the Real Estate agents on the city data messageboard. LOL.

Fort De Soto is a VERY nice beach if you can get to it. lol- It really is. The beach area (and Bush Gardens) are the only good things about the Tampa area (IMO).

The people are just REALLY hazy. It is like they are in slow motion.

DC is the dirtiest city I have ever been to. And it is not even close... AND... that includes non-US cities.

not a sox fan as i do not have time for it ......with my first baby on the way i am sure things are going to change..

Yip. It sure will. lol- Im 27, and just had my first son last August. While I have always been a casual Red Sox fan who goes to Fenway for about 5-6 games a year, I didnt really get "Hooked" until my wife got pregnant, and I had to stay around the house and help her out all of last summer.

Now, I cant wait until my son is old enough to play and take to Fenway.

Here is a tip... If you can, put your kid on the Pats season tix list as soon as he/she is born. That way they should have some seats, as soon as they come of age!

Honeymoon Island State Recreational Area. Admittedly, I lived in the Town n' Country part of tampa which is half an hour minimum from USF.

you need to check different websites. DeSoto is a nice place, but it's way down at the tip of the penisula. No where near the closest beach to Tampa. Heck, the causeway is lined by beaches if you don't mind swimming in the bay instead of the Gulf. Go here

One more thing, Honeymoon isn't free, but if I remember correctly the fee wasn't that bad. The main beach has a lot of people, but if you go to the last parking lot and are willing to walk a bit, you can get away from the crowds. If you want free beaches, try the causeway.

Certainly good to know what a guy on a tourist vacation thinks of your city. In all likelihood, Washington thinks of itself as a world-class city because it's the center of government in the U.S., the most powerful nation on earth. It does not pretend to be the center of finance in the U.S. (NYC).

And of course, it can not compete with Boston, in terms of, well, football.

As to your evaluation of the Smithsonian museums? I brought my funny lil hunny and her kids there last summer, and we were all incredibly disappointed with the American History museum. Of course, we only took a morning there... so you don't really cover much of the total of a given museum. Haven't been to Air and Space for a while, but will trust your no-doubt exhaustive recon.

You're right about the Metro, but the subway is newer.

One thing I will say, although I found the "dirty" comment just silly (I don't usually find DC particularly dirty): People working in services here seem to catch some sort of bug from nearby government drones, and take forever to do the simplest things, which they tend to accomplish with a surly attitude. This has nothing to do with being a "wannabe city," they just wannabe pricks.
