What are you panicking about?

The fact is that rookie wide receivers haven't worked out under Belichick. The only exception is 2002 when veterans did their job and Givens and Brance developed beside veterans. Where is our David Patten?

Didn't you say the same thing about TE's back in 2010?

I'm panicking about having to put yet another thread on ignore because too many posters can't seem to understand the difference between panic and honest analysis of a struggling team.

Translation:

too many posters are not properly reading my posts
which point out the errors in Belichick's thought process and team roster management.

...of which there are many.

I copied this from another site because it may sum up what this season could be like....

"As bad as the pats offense played on thursday, and dont get me wrong, they were awful...they were able to do one thing that this offense has not been able to do for the past 4-5 years: finish a game. as many drops as the team had in the middle part of the game, late in the 4th quarter when things werent going their way on offense, edelman was able to make a very tough catch to get a huge 1st down which essentially ended the game. in other words, this offense was clutch and late, which is something that they really havent been in a long time. did they look good the entire game and put up a bunch of points? no, but on a short week, against a divison rival, and a pretty solid D, they were able to keep the jets off the scoreboard and make enough plays late in the game to seal the victory. kinda reminds me of '03-'04...you know, before they became a high powered offense, and just found ways to win games...that's what they did the other night."

Of course. Every person ever in charge of an NFL team has made a ton of mistakes. It's all about minimizing those mistakes, which Belichick has done a pretty darn good job of.

I've had no problem with the patriots tight ends under Belichick.

And no, 2010 was not comparable to this year's situation with wide receivers. After the draft was complete, everyone thought that we got a steal with Gronk (clearly a 1st round talent) and with Hernandez (the steal of the draft). These were top notch players who starting for the patriots from Day One of training camp and worked with Brady. Also, TE's are just not the same as WR's. The success rate for top TE's is pretty good.

In 2013, we draft a solid 2nd rounder, a 4th rounder (who was expected by most to be inactive) and brought in UDFA's and many veterans. Camp time was split among many receivers. Brady reasonably spend enormous amount of time with Amendola, rather than the rookies.

When we all look at Belichick de[ending on rookie quarterbacks, we realize that this hasn't worked in more than 10 years. With regard to TE's, I was fine with the team developing picks Graham, Watson, and Dave Thomas. I would note that all of these were relatively high picks.

IN CONCLUSION

1) The talent of the 2010 tight ends was much better then the wide receiver rookies this year.

2) TE's tend to develop faster.

3) The 2010 tight ends were not competing for reps with a dozen other receivers.

4) HOWEVER, I have great confidence in Dobson. He was a fine pick. I expect him to do fine this year. IMHO, asking a 2nd rounder to be a #2 WR in his rookie year is unreasonable, except on a rebuilding team. I agree with most that Boyce was a good developmental pick, who will hopefully bear fruit next year. Thompkins is the wild card.

5) So, I might fine with our situation if we were acknowledged to have drafted two ready to play WR's (there are no such players, certainly after 15) and we had a history of having rookie wide receivers performing well.

Didn't you say the same thing about TE's back in 2010?

We need Gronk back to have any chance of a successful season.
Fixed it for you. :snob:

Things have changed the past 10 years--now it's a totally offensive-oriented leage. TFB or not, we would need the '85 Bears' D to win anything if the injury problems continue on offense.

Aside from the injury situation, I'm actually pretty encouraged.

The rook were getting open with good separation. This, against 2 very good Ds.

On top of that it was their first NFL game, jitters and high emotion are expected, then a short week, no time to recover from said 1st game emotions in terrible weather.

I'd be a lot more concerned if TB had no one to throw to and was forcing balls.

I'm actually more concerned, well amused actually, that so many knowledgeable fans are fighting over themselves to line up at the bridge.

I'm panicked that our entire season relies on two injury prone guys (Gronk, Amendola) not being injured.

As I said in the other thread, I'd be SHOCKED if Gronk, Amendola, Edleman and Vareen are all on the same field at any point during this season.

It's absolutely insane Belichick allowed this to happen. Our receiving situation right now is an absolute joke. "Wait until Amendola is back!" ...so he can proceed to re-injure himself in the same game?

This team is going absolutely nowhere without a healthy and effective Gronk, period. And we have no idea what he'll be like (and I can only assume negative things at this point, considering the number or surgeries..).

Despite all the drops I'm kinda encouraged by our rookie WR's. I mean 2 games in to their NFL careers and they're already getting seperation on almost every passing play. Now they just need to start catching the ball. I think they'll come good, and when they do come good they're going to be frighteningly good.

But on the Chandler Jones sack dance, he really needs to speed it up a bit. If we come up against an efficient hurry up offense he'll still be in the backfield, hip thrusting away to his hearts content, when the ball gets snapped

The only thing I am panicking about are the lack of offensive options.. we have nothing coming out the backfield via the pass(screens), thus there is less of a concern in that area and the DE's can adjust accordingly. No TE production, only one healthy slot receiver...

We has lost so many options and so much production, in the past the WR's were complimentary, now they are the primary receivers..

It is a herculean task to revamp this O quickly, but this team can do it..

The Pats were able to finish the game for one reason, and one reason only: GeeNo Smith.

I AM PANICKING BECAUSE THE PATRIOTS ARE NOT PLAYING TODAY.

Why panic? It serves no purpose.

However, we seem evenly matched with TB at moment.

Even with Gronk back, it seems likely that the next 3 teams are a couple of touchdowns better than we are.

But there is no reason to panic. After the sixth games, we face 3 week teams. Our wide receiver situation should be a bit better by then, and Gronk should be back in form.

So, sure, let's predict 5-1.

We use to have the best offense. Now we're beyond mediocre..
