Short term I can see the concern. The offense is obviously struggling and next week we are going up against a very good TB defensive line. They are going to pressure Brady and make it very difficult to run, so our young WRs need to step up. Then we head to Atlanta and go up against a very good Falcons offense in what could be a shootout. So short term we could be in for a rough couple of weeks with those two followed by Cinci and NO.
Long term however I think we are probably going to be better off with the way things have gone down. These injuries to key players have forced young guys into reps and forced Brady to put a lot of work into them. They should develop much faster than any rookie WR ever would in this system. Now if we can get 2 of the 3 rookie WRs to develop into solid contributors by the end of the season (likely Tompkins and Dobson), then add a healthy Gronk, Amendola and Vereen to the two rookies, Edelman, Ridley, Blount and maybe even Sudfeld and we have the makings of a very good offense come January. If we had Gronk, Amendola and Edelman on the field for the entire season than I don't think our rookie WRs would have the same opportunity to develop. I don't think having injuries is ever a good thing, but long term I think it may help us. After all, wouldn't you rather this team peaking in January/February
