What are you expecting from Drake Maye in Y2?

I expect Maye to learn how to slide.
Seriously. That was my biggest concern with Maye last year. He's going to get himself killed until he learns when it's ok to just take the slide and avoid the big hit. You don't have to get all the yards in one play, Drake. Live to fight another day!!

Have a good feeling that he’s smart enough to pick up the new O so I don’t think that’ll be an issue. I’d like to see him SLIDE when needed mainly…that and knowing when to throw it away rather than to force something. Do that and I think he will be good…

3426 yards passing
25 TD
12 INT

5 rushing TD

3500 yards passing
34 TDs
10 INTs
415 rushing yards
8 rushing TDs

Thats assuming Diggs plays week 1 and is a version that is close to his best self.

Drake is always going to be an exciting player
I think under this new coaching staff. Especially under Josh
Drake will learn to throw the ball away when needed and the art of sliding
I think he will show some flair, while being taught early to play within the system
I’m also sure we will still have a few WTF moments
Just not nearly as much as last year

15 ints? man, you must hate Maye... why you gotta bring the party down like that?
I don’t think this is unfair at all. Maye has been forced to play hero ball his entire college and nfl career to date. He’ll need a year in the McD system to change these habits. We also need to prepare for an offensive line with up to 4 new starters…even if we wind up fielding a solid line, and we might, it’s going to take some time for this unit to gel.

Fortunately, the defense is strong enough and the schedule is weak enough to weather Some hiccups. I could see the season playing out a lot like 2021, where they get off to a slow star before feasting on weak teams, the critical difference being that this year’s group continues to grow through throughout the year, rather than being exposed as fraud against stronger competition.

that post was basically a joke... i thought the tone came out in the post, guess not... but you are right SP... Maye had 15 ints in 10 games last year... so, if Maye has 15 ints over 17 games, i'd be good with that because it means he's cut down on the mistakes, that the offense is working properly, and he's not having to play the gunslinger / hero ball role... especially if he adds 25 td's to the mix... about a 2.5% td/int ratio would be a big improvement...

15 isn't an anomaly. Brees, Brady and Burrow threw 15, 14 and 14 respectively in their sophomore seasons...

I'm more concerned about him putting the ball on the ground or getting strip sacked. He's been prone to that even in college and it needs to stop.

Drake needs to get into better shape and add some muscle. He seems soft and puffy with girly arms. If Drake is injured, the season is pretty much kaput. The Patriots made great strides this year, but next year they need to add depth at the key positions such as QB, LT, C, etc.

Drakes interview today
I love this kid’s personality.
He is definately wired and twitchy.
But that is probably what makes him excel

I don't think teams have much film on Maye as the team was already really bad. There's a lot of new faces and offense in place. As for Brady, he did struggle in year 2 mostly because their defense was bad. More specifically, teams found out they could run on them starting with KC and SD with teams copying the same game plan. While I do remember Marty's "discovery", I don't think that had much to do with Brady's struggles. It was more because the offense was not built for weekly shootouts.
I think teams have enough on Drake. He started week 6 and beyond. They have enough on him to see his capabilities and tendencies.. he's a dual threat QB and teams know that they can't necessarily predict what he's going to do on 3rd down.. even in a ****ty situation last season he was the lone bright spot offensively. With real scheme and some guys that now have to be accounted for on offense Drake can thrive and dispel whatever defenses try to take away.

I'm hoping for more TD's than INT's.
Mac Jones killed his team with taking sacks that put out of FG range. So I'd hope to see very little of that from the Cold Duck.
He had 15 TDs to 10 INTs last season.. so he's ahead of the game... I'm thinking 25TDs to 6 INTs next season..

Unless Drake has spent the entire off season lifting weights and taking creat..ah supplements, he is gonna be in danger of having a season-ending injury. His body is/was soft and girly--he cannot stand up to a full season of NFL pounding unless he has been eating his Wheaties. And since the Patriots did that idiotic trade (give-away really) of Milton, they are going to be in big trouble if Drake goes down.

The Patriots have a really nice team right now, but it is not deep enough to handle the loss of key players. Next offseason they have address the depth issue.

What do I expect of Maye with a real HC and a much improved team around him
Screw restraining from high expectations

I think every season has that chance Fred. . I know it sounds ridiculous but has creatine (gd autocorrect) been added to the ped list yet? If not I’m kind of surprised. I think since he’s still so young he will fill out like a big boy and get much stronger. Who knows, he could have a GOAT in his ear (pretty sure he does/did)…

Marrone is going to have all of those guys ready to play, too. I haven't been this confident on the line since Scar was here.
I agree with that. We were spoiled by Scar for many years but there are quite a few out there I’ve admired. Obviously Jeff Stoutland in Philadelphia is doing a phenomenal job, Bill Callahan, Mike Munchak are great. I think Marrone just getting back to concentrating on one duty will do wonders for him and this team

Did you know Drake Maye led the league in yards per carry (minimum 50 carries)
