Welker was never coming to the patriots

The Patriots rejected that offer, they didn't want him, that's a fact.

This is backwards, retro-active logic. The Patriots "rejected" Welker's offer -- not because they never wanted him -- but because they signed Amendola by that point. Bob Kraft even flat-out admitted they wanted Welker back. Welker had all of the tampering period to realize his value + the first day (or two) of FA. It didn't sink in until it was too late.

Welker could have had 7.5 from Tennessee, his market was higher than the 2-10 or 2-12, but winning means more to him than the money, so he took less, and Patriots fans better hope Belichick is right and the Bronco's don't end up knocking them out of the play-offs and winning a Lombardi because if they do the sh.t is going to be all over the patriots face. Speaking personally i would have matched the offer and gone with both Welker and Amendola next season, it would have upgraded their WR corps and kept welker off the Bronco's, which is a worst case scenario imo.
More backwards, retro-active logic. Welker took less when he finally realized that no team was even close to his 3/$24 minimum. If he knew this all off-season; he'd probably still be in NE.

not too bright are ya.......did I say worse?

I don't believe he will make much of a difference given who they already have

the broncos are just happy they got him away from the pats......manning can no longer spot the ball they way brady does and needs to put more air under the ball......welker will have stokley-like numbers and if he has more, it will be because decker and/or thomas will have less.......the net sum won't change though
Some people continue to forget that Welker operates in the same area where the Patriots invested heavily in Aaron Hernandez, Rob Gronkowski and Danny Amendola. Money needs to be spread through the rest of the roster.

Ironically, the allegedly smart move of signing WW away from the Pats resulted in the loss of the Broncos second best defensive player who is at a much more important position. LOL I think if Elway had a do-over on the turn of events he would rather have kept Dumervil than signing WW who is in essence a luxury for their offense given the other two wideouts. Too bad.

Tactics man its all tactics. FO played this to perfection. Dangles WW over there to the Broncos. They get all excited, think they are stealing away our WR and getting him for a deal...Meanwhile they are not paying attention over there and their best defensive player goes away over a paperwork flub.

The ole diversion play.

Simply amazing battle tactics. lol It would have been even better if we got Dumer but whatever...

OH MY GOSH, really? Mr. Kraft said they wanted him back? Then it must be true! And Welker's outrageous demands( he wanted as much as Ocho) must be the reason they were comPletely unable to get a deal done despite pulling out all the stops and trying their very best. Screw Welker, what a greedy little diva b.tch.

I see you ignored the logical train of thought to hastily smash out a hysterical response to the most irrelevant aspect of his post.

He's really taken this bit too far. He's gone who gives a ****, crying about it won't bring him back. I can assure him that whoever he feels is responsible for this travesty doesn't give a rat's ass that fanboys on a forum are sad.

Exactly, we need to do what the pats do with a game, turn the page and look ahead to a bright future!

That's because it is a bullsh.t argument, the Patriots were rejecting Welker's offers for two years and acting like it was because of Amendola is total bullsh.t. The idea that the Patriots wanted Welker back is ludicrous, they didn't, and the suggestion they actually tried given the offers they did make is ridiculous. If they wanted him back they could have had a deal very easily and that is obvious.

You realise no amount of complaining is going to bring back Wes Welker and you should put your energy into following the current moves of the team. People dwell on things for far too long.

I always wonder why you spend so much time here when your Jets have so much work to do. I realize they suck but you should really focus on your team, not the Patriots.

Your point that getting rid of great players makes teams better, not worse, was a really good one though, i will try to keep it in mind.

LOL......running home to mama

the pats didn't get rid of him....he left

Tom Brady was locking on to Welker, that is an observable fact, and it hurt the offense in the playoffs.

Except the Patriots didn't take the position you just laid out, they took the position that they wanted Welker "for life" but his side screwed that all up, which really is complete crap. they could have taken your position, or they could have argued that Welker, great as he is, has taken way too many big hits and they needed to find a younger replacement to help Brady finish his career, which they actually did, and that they were simply being proactive and now are set for the rest of Brady's career.

I have accepted the fact that Welker is gone and the Patriots are moving on. i don 't like the way it was handled by any means but that's the way it is. Amendola should be a good player for them ands i'm actually looking forward to seeing how he works with Brady, i just have no tolerance for the idiots who continue to talk sh.t about one of the best players this team has ever had, and the idiotic claims about Amendola being an upgrade or Welker hurting the Bronco's. I should just let them talk their sh.t but much like Godfather 3 they just keep "sucking me back in."
I could not care less about what is said, spun, leaked or reported to or by the media.
Bob Kraft could say he was ready to give Welker 50mill a year but an alien whispered in his ear it was a bad idea.
I'm talking about the reality and the football team, not rhetoric.
They are accountable to decisions and result, not explanations.

And if the Patriots can't get Manning off the field next year with Welker racking up first down after first down and the broncos either knock off the Patriots in the play-offs or win the Lombardi then the Patriots are going to really regret the decision they made.

If, on the other hand, the Patriots beat the Broncos and Amendola has a good season then they will come out of it just fine, we'll see, hopefully it's the latter because as much as I respect Welker I'm still a Patriots fan first and want them to get another ring or two before Brady and Belichick hang them up.

By that logic Brady was the problem, not Welker. I think the real problem was the lack of a deep threat and injuries to Gronkowski and Hernandez have really hurt them when it matters most but you can blame it on Brady if you wish. And if you are right then replacing welker with Amendola doesn't really make much sense because if he is really successful, which he should be if healthy, then the same dynamic will take place with him rather than Welker. The real answer is a really good deep threat who can force opposing secondaries to cover the whole field, not reducing the impact of really good slot guys who can move the chains consistently.

The final straw was a take or leave it offer for $10M/2 on Tuesday night.
==============================================
In 2011, the team and Welker negotiated. Kraft told Welker that a contract would be worked out with him before the start of the 2012 season.

In 2012, there was an offer, a franchise tag, and the expectation of further negotiations. Welker signed the tag. The patriots moved on, having secured what they wanted. They reportedly would have signed Welker for $16M guaranteed; Welker wanted $20M or $21M.

In 2013, all the hype was that there were considerable negotiations before free agency started and that Welker was almost a lock to stay. Obviously, that was utter nonsense. On the first day of free agency, Welker was offered 2/20 or the team would sign a player that night, player who has missed more than half his games over the past two years.
======
THEN THE REAL DECISION-MAKING
Welker "knew" that he likely could get $8M a year if he accepted playing for a poor team. With an offer of $7.5M in hand from TENN, Welker went to Denver. Elway and tweets from the players convinced him how wanted he was by everyone in Denver. He received $12M guaranteed and got to play for one of the two top AFC teams.
========
WELKER'S AGENT IS GOING TO REGRET THIS DECISION
Obviously, Robert Kraft is not used to someone sticking it to him. Sure, Kraft "wanted" Welker to come back, at the patriot price, with no negotiations and no back-talk. After 3 years, Welker finally understood and moved on.

This OP belongs here http://forums.denverbroncos.com/ along with all the posters still crying over us letting Welker and his meaningless stats go.

That has nothing to do with what they are saying about their decision making.
Are you really saying your point wins because you care about winning and I don't?

Again, not the point.
I accept this is a football decision and will be determined on the field.
You objected based on how it was portrayed in the media.

That isnt a fact at all. The fact is that Welker was often his first progression, and he was often open.

I dont think anyone is really happy WW is gone. He was a great player.

What I cant understand is why there is such a great devide.

The camp that understands its business and like it or not he is gone and that is how it is.

The other camp that seems to think that if they whine about it over and over he will come back. Or if they take a certain stance now they can say "I told you so" if the pats have any issue that position.

Seems like some people need to go out in the real world and learn 2 things.

1. Life isnt fair, you cant always get what you want, its business and not personal...etc
2. Dont make being right on a football website especially at the expense of your own teams success some sort of victory.

Make better use of your time by focusing on real issues.
