In addition to Welker leading the league ...

1: Patriots: Welker/Gronk ... 2181 yards - 165 receptions.

2: Steelers: Wallace/Brown .... 1959 yards - 117 receptions.

3: Giants: Cruz/Nicks .... 1936 yards - 119 receptions.

4: Packers: Jennings/Nelson .... 1805 yards - 113 receptions.

5: Saints: Graham/Colston .... 1767 yards - 142 receptions.

ESPN stats hopefully up to date ... as of 6:20 EST.

2011 NFL Player Receiving Stats - National Football League - ESPN

Sidenote neither Welker or Gronk in the top 40 for avg ... that is a lot of hard yards.

Those stats aren't up to date... only good through last week.

It seems none of the websites, espn, fox, cbs, nfl, etc. have realtime updates of stats...

GRONK is now #4 on the list at NFL.com, and at 1088 yards, so I think it's safe to say that he and Welker at #1 make up the top tandem in the NFL. :rocker:

I'll have to rerun them tomorrow ... I think it's interesting to look at the pairs.

It can be viewed as a negative sign though, we spread the ball out pretty nicely last season, this season it looks like we run through those two. I love how productive they are, but I wish someone would consistently step up and be #3, Hernandez was very good today, but outside of our top 3, the next up had 1 catch for 15 yards.

edit: By the way, all you had to do was check the gameday stats and add them, haha.

Welker: 100 catches 1,339 yds 9 TD
Gronk: 71 catches 1,088 yds 15 TD(receiving only)
Total: 171 catches 2,427 yds 24 TD

Looks like your combined stats were half updated, they had 13 catches today but your count is 6 off, but your yardage is 246 off (both combined). No idea what NFL.com did or wherever you got the stats from, haha.

we need the TD count in those numbers

GRONK: 15 receiving TD's (#1 in NFL, 3 ahead of Johnson)
WW: 9 receiving TD's (T-#3, with Nelson and Jennings, both GB)

The reason why the offense goes through those two is that they do a phenomenal job of getting themselves in a position to catch the ball, and they do it reliably enough that they're almost always going to be the top options for Brady to throw to.

Moreover, GRONK is such a matchup nightmare that unless teams commit to double or triple coverage to stop him, he's going to be open. And when they do commit to that extra coverage, that leaves the door open for big games from Branch, Hernandez, Woodhead, and others. (Moreover, as we saw today, sometimes even that's not enough to stop a determined GRONK from making a big play.)

There is nothing wrong with throwing a lot to 2 guys if those guys are consistently open. If you look at results per target, I think you will see they are exceptional with these guys. (and they get the tough throws too, 3rd downs, red zone) If you threw a lot to 2 guys and werent successful its a problem, if its cause they get open the most, its not.
