Welcome to the roster, Chris Barker

From the article:
The depth on the offensive line has reached a dangerously low place and Barker’s promotion makes sense. The 25-year-old has the ability to play both guard and tackle, so in a pinch he could help if needed.

I have been expecting Mike Williams to slide into playing tackle, since he is built like one and has played it at the NFL level just a few months ago in Detroit. Seems they will not be doing that, perhaps because a) it would have a negative ripple on the TE game plan, b) he is probably pretty rusty...

Thoughts?

Expect to see a lot of Williams in this game. I'm looking for him to get a whole lot of time as an in-line blocker.

I'm glad that Vollmer is sitting. The Pats have always tended to be cautious with concussions and don't rush a guy back from one.

Sean Lee had a concussion the week before the Cowboys faced the Pats and Lee played in that game. Did that have any bearing on his current issues? Maybe.

I think the Rats also rushed Skrine back against the Pats after he suffered a concussion the week before.

I trust Stork, as I think he is a superior OL in intelligence and nasty.

This team is in the playoffs - there is no reason to rush Vollmer (we don't even know if/when he will clear). He is needed vs teams like DEN.

I expect the beasts we have at TE to see some significant action.

Pretty amazing that stork is playing 3 positions on the ol at an nfl level. Its a testament to his iq and talent

Here's an interesting & funny article on Stork that probably got buried during Deflategate since it was posted in the week leading up to the SuperBowl.

New England Patriots center Bryan Stork takes 'Do Your Job' to new level

PHOENIX — How much does Patriots rookie center Bryan Stork love football? Ask his offensive line coach, Dave DeGuglielmo. He’ll provide some pretty solid proof.

“Well I think we knew right away,” DeGuglielmo said Wednesday. “What really hit me was, about three weeks into him starting, he sent his girlfriend home. He said he got rid of her. He said, ‘I have bigger things to worry about than her.’ That tells me, you know what, this guy’s kind of got it together here: ‘I need to focus on football.’ He’s all-in.”

“You can tell, (Stork) is watching film at 9, 10 o’clock at night in the building, and they don’t have to because they all get it on the IPads,” DeGuglielmo continued. “But he’s in the building, he’s constantly around, he’s constantly asking questions. He’s almost a pain in the ass that he asks so many questions to the other guys. They get irritated, but he wants to know because he understands he has a responsibility to the rest of the group.”

DeGuglielmo, in his first year with New England, said the Patriots were honing in on two centers during the 2014 NFL Draft. He declined to name the other. He remembers calling Florida State offensive line coach Rick Trickett and expressing concern about Stork being nicked up during his college days.

“And (Trickett) said, ‘Don’t worry about this guy. He’s the toughest guy you have in the room,’” DeGuglielmo said. “And coach (Belichick) went ahead with it, and it turned out — this kid is a tough kid.”

Stork has not played since injuring his right knee in the second quarter of the AFC divisional round win over Baltimore. He returned to practice this past Thursday.

Hopefully cannon and conglomerate feeling better soon

I'm hoping for at least 25-30 rushes this game, because the easiest thing for this massively inexperienced OL to do is fire out and try and move that DL. It is when they are being forced to go backward, are they likely to get in trouble.

It is here that we disagree. I expect us to be in the shotgun a lot and to score the 35+ points that may be needed to beat Eli.

Patriots to promote Chris Barker to 53-man roster

Hope your game is improved from the preseason. Next man up!

Who doesn't want to play for an undefeated team that won the last Super Bowl? Is that a great opportunity or what?

And, oh, to be that player who stood out at times when the team needed them the most...kind of makes getting one of those rings just as special as those who go on to win other awards. There's nothing like wining it all and looking back to say: My contribution was worthy.
