Is Harvin more of a threat than Moss?

Harvin (if healthy) is incredibly quick and shifty. I wonder if he will be more difficult to cover than Moss at this stage in his career...

I would say yes. Harvin is more of a threat because the Patriots haven't played against him. Moss, on the other hand, played against our own defense in practice every single day, so what he can do is well-known to our team.

Studying film is great, but getting to practice against someone in real life is so much more revealing.

I'm not as worried about Moss as I am Harvin, and Adrian Peterson.

Re: Is Harvin more of a threat than Moss?

Just Like Welker, Harvin is more of a threat then Moss, becasue of Moss.

Harvin was a threat before Moss showed up. He's even more of a threat now.

Re: Is Harvin more of a threat than Moss?

They are both dangerous, but Harvin has the edge on the aging Moss..

Re: Is Harvin more of a threat than Moss?

Don't forget Shiancoe.

This. Harvin wasn't playing very good before Moss came to Minnesota. Moss became the focal point of top defensive backs and safeties and Harvin is the major beneficiary. Of course, Moss is still the top scoring threat and can take it 50 yards on any play.

One of my favorite things about Moss is the teacher aspect, he is a great mentor to younger WRs.

Absolutely. Harvin was having a sour season before Moss came in and performed the role of Sidney Rice look at me I'm going to stretch the field for captain Migraine.

Guess it goes to show you the value of complimentary players and the role that has on production.

Re: Is Harvin more of a threat than Moss?

Harvin is much more physical and athletic than Moss is now, given the age of Randy. I'm worried about Harvin and Shiancoe.

Oh please! Moss has had little impact on the Viking offense since his arrival.
The Moss as teacher aspect???

This 100% correct - very little impact.

The increase from 14 PPG to 23 PPG?
The increase in passing yards of 60 per game?
The 7 TD passes in the 3 games with him versus 3 in the 3 without him?
Harvin's stats going from 7 catches 106 yds 1 td and 3 carries 15 yards to 13 catches 183 yds 2 tds and 5 carries 59 yds, 1 td?

This is all just pure coincidence.

Re: Is Harvin more of a threat than Moss?

Harvin will probably need the Marshal Faulk/Brian Westbrook cure - have your defense hit him every time he leaves the backfield.

blah blah blah ... stats .... boring .. wins n losses is what counts ..

Re: Is Harvin more of a threat than Moss?

Moss certainly helps open up things for Harvin, who already was a dangerous threat. They line up Harvin in a lot of different spots though and take advantage of his versatility.

And there's been very little talk this week of AP, perhaps the best running back in the league. It just goes to show how explosive the Vikings offense could be if Favre wasn't such an attention whore. And though Jackson is nowhere near Favre, he could give them some more balance and not be a turnover machine. He may actually be a better fit for them now, much like when Brady took over as a caretaker type QB over Bledsoe, who had been conditioned to try and always make big plays due to so many losing seasons with the Pats.

Re: Is Harvin more of a threat than Moss?

No.

Before Moss arrived in MIN, just in general we could put McCourty on Harvin or double him if we wanted, single up the other WR with Arrington, put Guyton on Shiancoe, and stack the box for AP. And Harvin would be out time to time b/c of his migraines.

Now, having Moss there at a minimum gives us, let's say, McCourty on Moss and Arrington on Harvin. If I'm MIN I take either one of those matchups. Or we single up McCourty on Harvin and double up Moss, leaving Guyton without help on Shiancoe and taking an S out of the box. There's just way more pressure from that personnel group now.

I guess I view Moss as more of a threat, I'm not that worried about McCourty on Harvin but I think Moss is just too good for the kid to single him up.

Re: Is Harvin more of a threat than Moss?

Yes, Harvin is more of a threat than Moss. and yes, Moss makes Harvin more of a threat.

That being said, the vikings have three top receivers and one of the top running backs in the nfl. If they only had a brain (I mean a quarterback).

Is it just me, or does it seem a bit strange about how very little discussion there is about Sunday's game? A couple months ago this was seen as not only one of the Pats most difficult games of the year, but one of the biggest NFL games in 2010 - and that was before Randy Moss was traded from one team to the other.

What's going on? Is it because
  • About 90% of the media are predicting the Pats will win
  • Very few in the media are talking about the game itself
  • People are talking about Favre's ankle instead
  • People are talking about Favre-Sterger instead
  • People are talking about whatever Chilly just said instead
  • People assume the Pats will win because they won last week
  • People assume the Vikings will lose since they lost last week
  • People assume the Pats will win because 5-1 > 2-4
  • People are watching the World Series (j/k, I know I'm the only one)

Anyways, anybody have some analysis, thoughts, insight, opinion, keys to the game, etc.? We're about 19 hours from kickoff and all I know the Pats are facing a team that went to the conference championship last year and has some very talented players on both offense and defense. It just seems a little presumptuous to assume this is a win for the Pats.

Little discussion? It seems to me that this game has been one of the main stories on NFL network for the past few days. It's been talked about a lot for the following reason.

1. Brett Favre
2. Randy Moss return to Foxboro
3. VIKES VS PATS:rocker:
4. Brett Favre

There is a world series going on?

Outside of the Golden Gate area and spur wearing Texas cowboys, who really cares?
