NFL GAME DAY DISCUSSION Week 17: NFL Other Games

If Hamlin dies or is brain dead, no way the Bills play you guys next week. I think we just forfeit the last two games. And I bet not even all the players would be there mentally for the playoff's.

If he does not wake up, our season is over I think...

That's a big "if," but forfeiting the last two games would make sense. The Bills then could play to honor his memory, support his family and charities. etc. That would give them something positive out of tragedy to rally around.

This is a total nobody with zero sources. The same type who will probably tweet **** like “Hearing the Patriots are interested in a trade for Chris Godwin” this offseason and other highly speculative nonsense.

My guess is the players will dedicate their play to him not lie down!

Sorry this happened

Huh. Perhaps this is good news? Not sure what to make of it.

NFL will not let Buffalo forfeit next week. The Steelers, Dolphins, Jags all have shots at the playoffs. There’s no way the owners/league would be ok with a playoff spot being decided this way.
Can you imagine the explosion that would follow. They can make Buffalo play, but they can’t make them “play”.

If tonight's any indication, they may not have a choice. Although the owners that sign their paychecks might.

They have I am sure. When you paying those salaries an ECG and echo are cheap. But some cardiac issues are hard to pick up. Or you could get an acute viral cardiomyopathy. Christian Erickson’s heart condition was undiagnosed and he was being paid millions.
I thought they were doing more 3D MRI scans of the heart to help find things like heart defects and such.

I don't know anything about Viral Cardiomyopathy or Christian Erickson's story. Aren't there outward signs with a virus?

I hear ya, not saying they’d play well or even start a lot of the starters, but they won’t forfeit.

Nice troll account. Take this to the playoff thread or the Pats-Bills pregame thread.

I don't know what would happen if the Bills just said no we are not playing. I guess a bunch of fines that the Bills owner would pay? It's a very messed up situation.

I know players have died in sports before and the show must go on. But McDermott is a bit different and I would not put it past him to just say he cannot ask his players to play next week.

Hopefully he wakes up after 24/48 hours and it does not come to this. Even in that scenario you guys will be playing a team that had a very bad week of practice etc, so a win is a good bet.

Bold of you to presume the Pagulas wouldn't be the ones handing out the fines themselves.

Apparently not on a consistent basis. Cyrus Jones had a blood clot and was on blood thinners while with the Ravens in 2019, and they still didn’t discover his heart defect. That happened about six months later when he was with Denver, where it sounds like they’re used to checking things extra carefully due to the altitude.

I hadn't realized that Cyrus Jones had a blood clot when he was with the Ravens.
I guess I thought that they did more than just EKG and Echo. They have some really cutting edge 3D MRI Mammography. I would have thought that the same technology could be used to map the heart. So they could find defects like Bruschi's PFO and such.

That being said, I can understand why some college players skip the combine out of fear of something being found and losing out on millions.

I've never trolled here. Only have a few posts in a couple years.
You're a Bills fan and this is what you want to discuss? GFY.

It could go either way. The team could have a crap week OR it could galvanize them.

I'm praying for his quick recovery.

Showing my medical ignorance here: Could the adrenaline in a player's body from participating in said play have a delaying affect on the body reacting to the VFib?
If it was commotio cordis, there’s usually a delay (mere seconds) between the trauma and collapse. After impact happens, the heart changes its normal rhythm, which leads to cardiac arrest.

I saw this happen in a boys lacrosse game before goalie chest protectors were changed in 2021 to protect against it. Luckily the team had an AED at the field, someone who recognized what happened and knew how to address it.

Wow, I could never see that happening.
They're not they super-super wealthy owners with lots of additional revenue streams. Losing out on a gate would be a big financial hit for them.
