One poster didn't think that I was being clear enough.

I believe that our defensive front seven is plenty good enough for a playoff team with one of the top offense in the league. The front seven performance (point allowed) can be counted on to improve and to be fine for the playoffs.

We also have depth at all positions, although we count on our three defensive stars: Wilfork, Mayo and Carter.

The 2010 defense was among the leaders in points allowed in the last half of the season. We've added Carter andAnderson (also Ellis). Ninkovich and Love are improving and playing well.

BOTTOM LINE
What the defensive front seven needs is for their ILB's to recover from their injuries, and to continue to improve.

I want to agree with you, but we also gave up 4.5 on the ground per carry yesterday. But the pass rush was drastically improved. Carter beating Ferguson regularly is a serious feat.

With regard to the run defense, we need Fletcher or Spikes back.

Well, that is without Spikes and Chung though (two of the Pats' best run defenders) not to mention McCourty going out who is also good against the run. At full strength, I have no worries about the Pats' run defense.

Carter isn't a star, Ninkovich did this same trick last year @ MIA on prime time and then disappeared for the last 12 games, you got to give them more time, and even then we won't see another good team until January so expect the bums to look good.

Not being negative, just realistic, we have enough to beat anyone but all is dependent on Brady.

Carter has been good at rushing the passer most of the year. He hasn't gotten sacks, but he has gotten pressure. And he is held a lot. He won't get 4.5 sacks every game and might not get 4 more, but he will get into the backfield.

The Pats did pressure Eli Manning 21 times last week.

Well said mgteich.

We gave up 4.5 ypc because spikes and Chung weren't there but it was also part of the game plan which Gresh and Zolak mentioned earlier. We were giving up the run and focusing on rushing Sanchez.

ahem.. aren't we getting ahead of ourselves here?

This is what I saw. I saw Two tackles with two ends. The tackles were playing two gapping principle and I think this is why Haynesworth failed. So we are playing 4-3 semblance with 3-4 principle.

In spite of injuries and some curious personnel moves, I've long felt that this was a defense that's improving. That said, lack of an inside pass rush is a concern for me.
