Way premature playoff prediction thread

Re: 2011 prediction thread?

After the teams have reached their 53 man rosters I usually start a thread, unless others do. It's rather senseless to do it now.

Besides there is a long period of time between the last pre-season game and the 9/12 game. We have to have something to fill the void.

Re: 2011 prediction thread?

Here is Peter Kings senseless contribution, his annual SB prediction...

2011 NFL Preview: Peter King Predicts Falcons over Chargers in Super Bowl XLVI « Inside Sports Illustrated

Not sure about all the Falcons love he's feeling, they haven't looked or played all that well this pre season...has them facing the #2 seed SD Superfrauds...

He has NE as the #1 seed losing to the #5 seed Ravens out of the gate...such insight and imagination...

I really don't get the Ravens love.

True. His predictions all seem reasonable except for the Raven's entire season. The Browns should be able to over take them (if there is truly no Brown's curse ).

Thanks for doing this again and agreed on waiting. Good idea not only roster wise, but we'll get a better sense of who's starting for whom (like Peyton) and whether there are any final Pre-Season injuries/surprises. Plus, it makes the last week before opening night a lot more fun.

When you do the thread, I suggest you specify whether the prediction is due before the Packers' season opener or the Patriots', as the Pats don't open 'til Monday night.

Re: 2011 prediction thread?

Here are my predictions

Superbowl: the 18-0 pats vs Cowboys..Pats win.

MVP: Tom Brady
Comeback player: Albert Haynsworth
DPOY: Mayo
Coach of the year: Bill Belichick

Re: 2011 prediction thread?

I really don't see how anyone could be upset about the prediction.

I'm just thrilled he didn't take the Pats. Nothing worse than having the moron "experts" pick the Patriots to win it all.

Of course, most of the time they all feel obligated to pick a "new" team, disregarding the fact that the Colts, Steelers, and Pats have owned the AFC for a decade.

Re: 2011 prediction thread?

I think we go 12-4 and win the East. Other division winners; Pittsburgh, Houston and San Diego. NYJ and Baltimore Wild Cards.
Colts miss the playoffs. Almost did last year. We beat SD in AFC Championship game.

I like Philly, New Orleans, Green Bay and Oregon to win the NFC West. WC will be Dallas and Atlanta. Green Bay over New Orleans in NFCCG.

We beat the Pack in the Super Bowl.

Do they play at Oregon Trail Stadium?

Re: 2011 prediction thread?

LOL Oregon.

I don't like the Eagles nearly as much as the media driven Reid/Vick fanboys. That said, the once mighty (and never forgotten by most mediots) NFCE remains in my opinion a hot mess... I think it ultimately comes down to the Saints and the Pack in the NFC and NE and the Steelers in the AFC. Colts could be in it if the bolt holds in Lurch's neck. Otherwise Texans might finally get over the division hump. Flacco flashes but he's wildly inconsistent and a whiner of sorts who has benefitted from some lucky breaks. Kinda like the Sanchise. SD may have a cake walk in the AFCWorst unless Cassel can overcome the coaching dropoff that may be f-ing him up royally.

Re: 2011 prediction thread?

My big 2011 prediction is that Paris Hilton will find true love. Gosh, that girl deserves it.

Ohh..... NFL predictions.

AFC:
Pats -12-4
Ravens - 11-5
Chargers - 10-6
Texans - 10-6

Wild Card:
Jets -10-6
Steelers - 11-5

NFC:

Eagles - 10-6
Packers - 12-4
Falcons - 11-5
Rams - 10-6

Wild Cards:
Saints - 9-7
Lions - 9-7

MVP: Rodgers
DPOY: Suh
OPOY: Brady
DROY: JJ Watt
OROY: Julio Jones

Super Bowl (ok, the homer in me kicks in) Patriots over Packers

I am not sold on the Eagles either, but I don't think there is another good team in the division. The Redskins suck, the Giants are decimated already, and the Cowboys are average even with Romo back.

I think this is the year the Colts fall down the pack. I think Manning is risking too much rushing back to preserve his shot at breaking the consistent start record. But it is a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario because the Colts suck without him.

Glad you got it Mo. Good lord that division sucks. Seattle wins it at 7-9 and loses M. Hassleback. Replaces him with T. Jackson. How many crappy years does Alex Smith have before he's shown the door?
The Cardinals are soft as butter. I do like Sam Bradford. The Rams just don't have anybody he can throw to. I'll pick the Rams for clarity sake.

Re: 2011 prediction thread?

Despite an allegedly easier schedule, I predict a 12-4 record for the Pats. The strength of schedule stat though, is the worst stat in my opinion, because bad teams from 2010 can become good teams in 2011, and good teams of 2010 can fall back and become mediocre to bad teams. So you never know the strength of the team until you play them

I won't predict a SB champion, because I'm highly stupidstitious. BUT, I do think a Packers/Patriots SB would be a very exciting SB, and of course I'd be rooting with all my being for the Pats.

Didn't King predict the Dolphins/Panthers a few seasons ago, maybe 2007? :bricks:

To Peter King, one word is all you need to know why the Chargers will not be in the Super Bowl: NORV.

The bigger the game, the more Norv plays not to lose. His 4-4 record in the playoffs is what he is. He turned winning the jackpot as OC in Dallas into a long and mediocre (99-106) HC career. Owners and media and fans like the guy, but when it comes to the Big Game, well, Norv, you are no Jimmy Johnson.

That's okay. The weather is great in San Diego and the fans can just go surfing or staking out Boston's most-wanted mobsters when the season ends.

I like this prediction, especially taking Houston over Indy.

It seems like there are a few true sleeper teams every year that come out of the woodwork, I think Houston could be that team this year, but only if they manhandle the Colts in their first meeting of the year and stay relatively healthy. They need to whip the Colts badly to get on a confidence roll. Otherwise they are going to need to be lucky to go anywhere this year.

PS: I think Manning starts for Indy in game #1 and plays all year, hurt neck and all.
