I'm not really sure how this situation could get "worse". He is not with the team. This new information tells me he is not likely to be with the team tomorrow or the next day or ever.
How is it different than him not being with the team now? They've moved ahead as if he isn't going to be here and...well...he probably won't be here. So how is the situation worse?
