KEYS TO THE FIRST HALF OF ROUND ONE

ONE: How desparate are teams for quarterbacks?
I don't expect Gabbert abd Newton to get passed #4. Two of Carolina, Buffalo and Cinci should be drafting a quarterback.

TWO: How many teams will be desparate for an OT?
Buffalo, Detriot and Dallas come to mind.

Washington is at #10. Minny is at #12. Both want quarterbacks. Mallett, Locker and Ponder are available, but it would seem both WASH and MINNY should want to trade down, at least once. They both will have one of top dozen available as trade bait.
========================================================
THE TOP DOZEN (12)
QB Gabbett, Newton (both long gone)
WR Green, Jones
DB Peterson, Amukamara
DL/OLB Darius, Miller, Bowers, Quinn, Fairley, Jordan

OFFENSIVE TACKLE (1)

THE NEXT TIER (3)
DL/OLB Watt, A. Smith, Liuget
=====================================

So, we end up choosing between Kerrigan, Wilkerson and an OT. Obviously, we are hoping that a 3rd QB or another OT could slip in.

Although it sounds crazy there are some rumblings that Danver will grab a QB this draft, that should be interesting.

Point to ponder: Jerry Jones bought the Cowboys in 1989. Under his watch they have never once drafted an o-lineman in the first round. During that time they have drafted 15 o-linemen in rounds 2 & 3. I'd call that a trend.

I don't know about Gabbert and Newton being gone by 4, top 10 absolutely, but a pass rusher is also very valuable and most of those teams could use someone who can get after the quarterback. I will so that I expect 3 QBs to be gone with the first 25 picks. It would not be out of the ordinary at all for a team like Arizona to trade back into the late first and take someone like Jake Locker or Ryan Mallett.

That Washington pick is probably the right spot to be if the idea is to move up and grab a premier defensive front 7 player. I think the conversation begins and ends with JJ Watt. He's a superb player, great kid, and a freak athlete. I think he could be Seymour with a greater knack for getting to the QB. If they move up, I hope it's only to get him.

Yes, those who are picking Dallas to draft on OT seem out on a bit a limb. Amukamara seems like a standout choice for them if he is there. Otherwise, I think they will want to trade down.

I presume Philly is shopping Kevin Kolb. That may be a wildcard for the teams that are in the market for a QB.

Belichick seesm to be shopping #28. Perhaps, he would consider trading #28 and #33 for Minny's #12 if Watt is there (or whoever Belichick (prefers). I'm not sure Minny would like to go down that far and miss a quarterback.

This point has crossed my mind several times in the last few weeks.... But will they? How sold do we all think they are on Vick for the next few years?
This is a puzzler to me and could be a big wild card in this draft.......

A bigger wildcard is that without a CBA, teams can't trade players and until one is signed there isn't much of a point in assessing the implications of QB depth on draft trades. They must be pissed, too. I imagine he could net a high-ish 2nd rounder.

if gabbert isn't there at 12 i think the vikings will be more than willing to move down. the pats already stole their 3rd round pick this year. 12 for the 28 & 33 might get it done for the pats...if they gave the 17 and their own 2nd rounder i think the vikes would jump at it though.

Huh...for some reason, most of the trade-up focus has been on moving up from #17, I haven't seen the 28 +33 suggestion much. The idea of picking at 12 & 17 is mighty interesting, though it leaves a big hole between 17 and 60.

17 and 60 seems like too much. That's pretty close according to the draft value chart (a bit of an overpayment), but I don't think BB wants to even pay market value, let alone a bit above. If Minnesota really wants a QB, they should be willing to discount a bit. I wouldn't be willing to sacrifice a 2nd round pick to jump 5 spots unless someone amazing dropped.

17 and 74 would be a bit more palatable, give the Vikings their own 3rd back. 17 and 92 would be great.

We could always trade 92 plus 60 with the rams for 47. The two move up trades would give us five picks in the first four rounds. I suspect that we can fine a fine OG at 47.
