Warren to IR, Burgess reinstated

This sucks. At least the Pats have time to find Warren's replacement. What teams have depth at DT/DE? I know there were rumors that the Cowboys might trade Marcus Spears. Bob and Jerry have a great relationship. Bob needs to give his buddy Jerry a call.
This may happen but he sucks. I watch a lot of Cowboys games and he's invisible. He's a big disappointment in Dallas. Him and Carpenter where one of the rare misses of the Parcells era.

Let's look at this in perspective-- every team is going to suffer season ending injuries to some key players. Is Warren going to be missed? Yes.. but I think we have the pieces in place to fill his void, and he just simply is not the player he was 2-3 years ago.

They hadn't filled the void left by Seymour, and they've now got another void on the other side. Wilfork and Warren were the two best D-linemen on the team, and the gap to #3 was huge. Well, #3 just became #2. Smart teams will be game planning to destroy this Patriots team on the ground. Mayo, Spikes and the safeties had better be able to play at DPOY levels against the run, because G.Warren, D. Lewis and the rest of the D-line expendables are going to be targeted early and often.

Time to sign Schobel and run a 4-3. This team is not a 3-4 team anymore.

That Seymour trade is looking really good right now.

Seymour was gone by now anyways. You only get to compare last year's failures against next year's draft. The verdict's out on that one.

I'd take a healthy Ty Warren over Burgess and Schobel. Can't see them paying for Schobel now. Burgess better show-up ready to compete though.

isn't gregg ellis a FA? He's a DE who's played in a 3-4 before, but has less than ideal weight at 265.

Then they better change their scheme because it is built through their D-line. Without an effective D-line, it really doesn't matter who they have at LB.

Ok, we don't know if we have two DEs who can play the 4-3 on first and second down consistently, Wilfork comes off the field on most (or at least a lot) of 4-3 alignments. Does that mean he isn't suited to be a 4-3 DT? He might be an excellent back up.

The 4-3 is more dependent of the d-line than the 3-4. The Pats won two Super Bowls with Bobby Hamilton starting at DE in a 3-4. The 2003 and 2004 teams relied more on their LBs than their d-line.

I'd give oakland a second for seymour right now.

not the carolina second, though.....

Exactly. Of all the players who could have suffered season-ending injuries, Warren is not one I'm particularly concerned about.

I hope I don't end up ruing those words.

Wait a moment -- if a guy is IRed in TC, doesn't he have to pass through waivers?

I mean, isn't that what the Pats just proved with that Denver safety whose name I'm not retaining?

Marcus Spears was good in Parcells' defense which was a two gap, 3-4. He isn't an one gap, 3-4 player that Wade Phillips runs. There is a reason why Parcells tried to go after the guy this offseason.

Your acting like Ty Warren was the best lineman in the league. Vince Wilfork is the one who ties up linemen. Warren's play the last two years and last year esp.has not been up to par. Based on what I have seen of Gerard Warren in camp and last night, he is more than competant to fill the void. also with Brace, Lewis, Wright, etc there are plent of guys on the roster who can step up and give us PT.. Ty Warren has missed 8 games the last two years ,and his replacements in that time have filled in just fine.

Yes on the 4-3, but no, it's time to have Burgess or Cunningham put their hand in the dirt. No Schobel please.

....and no more kvetching about the Seymour trade already.

Warren has the years of service in, so waivers don't apply.

Warren is a veteran player who already has played for 4+ seasons in the NFL. Therefor he doesn't have to clear waivers and can go straight to IR if I remember correctly.

Edit: Too slow

Warren hasn't been as good as he has been in the past the last few years, but he was still good. He is still better than whoever we have to replace him right now.

Its crazy how quickly the OL and DL went from positions of strength to positions of weakness in a couple of years. This is too bad. We better pray there are no further injuries on either side of the ball.

Yes, Warren is good all I'm saying is that the drop off between Warren and Gerard Warren or Mike Wright or Damione Lewis is not as big as some people are making it out to be.

I'd sign Schobel for one DE spot and Cunningham/Burgess/Banta-Cain for the other.

Along with Wilfork, G. Warren would be their 2 down DT and Pryor would step in on 3rd down.

However, the OLB spot would be tricky.

Hamilton was better than you think. He was a journeyman when they signed him but he played very well for them. Maybe Warren and Lewis can do the same thing.
The 2003 and 2004 teams relied more on their LBs than their d-line.
I partially agree with that. Ted Washington was an absolute monster at NT and he was old as hell. Ditto with Keith Traylor. It also helps when almost all your LB's were 6-4 and 250 pounds.
