OK but I don't think it's that clear-cut.

Secondary- slight edge to 2005. Asante wasn't Asante yet, but still better than anyone else on the 2008 squad.
LB-2005
DL-2005
RB-2008
WR-2008
TE-2005
OL-2008
QB-2005

Good discussion!

You have 2005 with the stronger linebacking corps? Last year's LBs weren't great, but they weren't Monty Beisel/Chad Brown bad.

Forget about Brown & Beisel. They sucked. For pure playmaking ability....

2005 Vrabel, McGinest, Colvin and Bru...

is greater than...

2008 Mayo, Vrabel, Guyton, Seau, Colvin, Bru, Thomas & Pierre Woods

McGinest was toast, and Bruschi missed half the season with the stroke and wasn't the same player once he got back.

McGinest was toast, .

Wrong. 6 reg season sacks and 4 vs JAX in the playoffs.

Agreed, He played 9 games but hes still better than the 2008 Bruschi. Regardless, a 2005 Bruschi is equal to a 2008 Mayo.

I'd still take Colvin and McGinest on the outside and Vrable and Bru on the inside over Mayo, Guyton, and old Vrabel and an underperforming Thomas.

He was toast, although maybe it's more 'fair' to note that he was in a steep and rapid decline. There's a reason that he was let go afterwards, and it's not because he was terrorizing the NFL. He did have a game to remember against the Jags, though.

Well, we'll just have to leave it at that, then, since we've got a big difference of opinion on that 2005 LB corps, and it doesn't seem as if that's going to change.

Yep. Good, sane discussion!

Gotta agree with Deus. McGinest was dead, suddenly he pulled a stoopid good game out of his ass. Is it any wonder since McGinest's decline, this D has since lacked that elephant. The good for the defense that can do it all, rush the pass, set the edge, etc.

Man oh man we were so spoiled watching the LB play through 03-04. The funny thing is, we had arguably our worse secondary ever in 04 outside of the S play, the CBs were all devastated with injuries. Yet that's one of our finest defenses, because that front 7 was just too much.
