PATRIOTS NEWS Vrabel to speak with media today (4/21)

Breaking New England Patriots Team News
Yeah, I just read his quote out loud to my wife and she said the same, albeit with swear words and more anger.

I don't understand how so many posters downplayed the impact this would have on the team. I don't want to walk around denver with my pats hat on cause this **** is shameful.
Shameful? Wow grow a pair. Your coach may have cheated on his wife. This happens all the time and your wives feeling has no impact on how the team feels. Do I condone it hell no, does it cause me shame. Hell no why would it? Disappointing is a much better word to use. News flash it will have no impact on the team. How others insist on that is beyond me. Players care about does this coach put me in the best position to win and advance my career and does he care about me. That is it. As long as that continues, the team will love playing for him.

Yeah, he did. The local hounds were all over him for not talking before the draft and they weren't going to let it go.
I meant he did not need to address it from an ethical perspective, IMO. Doing it to shut up the media makes sense.

For Russini, this is a professional matter because of the conflict of interest it exposes her to.
interesting take. There is no conflict of interest afaict...

it makes her look bad because it says "will put out for a story"

So basically its a modern day "Slut Shaming" episode

has anyone seen a recent pic of her? she brandishing the scarlet letter on her bosom yet?

Vrabel owes me and any other fan absolutely nothing but doing the best job he can to put winning football on the field. He didn’t kill anyone, assault anyone, etc FFS.

Moving on.

That said…yeah he smashed Russini for sure

Conflict of interest means: "A conflict of interest is a situation where a person or organization’s personal interests—financial, personal, or professional—compromise their professional judgment, duties, or obligations."

If you're romantically/sexually involved with the coach while reporting on the NFL, for any story that puts info out the Pats might not want out there your professional duties to report that now have a negative effect on someone you have a personal relationship with. It's a clear conflict of interest.

What if NE was trying to move up for an OT? It would benefit them that it not be reported they're doing that so no one moves up further than them. Russini reporting that interest would hurt a guy she has a personal relationship with. You can't have that. Maybe she would report the story without bias, but the fact it's even a situation to consider is why it's inappropriate.

A guy and a girl dating CAN in theory work together in any business. There's no inherent reason why a boyfriend can't give an honest work performance evaluation of his girlfriend. But we all know the possibility for bias is so obvious that it's a dumb situation to allow. You can't have a national NFL reporter banging the head coach. The chance of bias is so obvious.

Glad he addressed that with the team. Good time to do his statement as well, he’ll probably take a some more lumps the next few days publicly and we’ll hafta hear the haters with their ‘patriot way’ stuff but the draft will move people along fast.

Internally i don’t see this being an issue moving forth

That was quite the word salad but OK, move on.

What he said today verified what I thought.

And even as we acknowledge that, that's a bit "inside baseball" of ethics in journalism that's not going to be an issue with fans or the Patriots - assuming Vrabel isn't divulging any inside Pats info (and there's no reason to think he is, any more than coaches and reporters exchange info off the record all the time, such that it serves their interests.)

But I'm really beginning to feel a little outrage on behalf of Vrabel.

Some fans I'm sure will judge him, but having the media poke around his relationship issues that IMO have no bearing on the job at hand (in fact you could make a case it HELPS the Patriots aside from the unwelcome attention) - to me that's something they should accept as a personal issue.

It used to be that the media would show exactly that type of ethics in journalism - so ironically both Russini AND the media badgering Vrabel are guilty of questionable journalistic ethics if you ask me!

there is no inherent conflict of interest here.

a reporter may or may not report on a topic at their discretion. did adam schefter get pilloried like she has when a text/email he sent to bruce allen asking if it was good to run or if there were edits he wanted get this much coverage? no. the inherent lurid nature in this story is the driving force here. conflict of interest is a red herring for the tacit slut shaming.

relationships exist between coaches, players, owners, staff and reporters at all levels. so, obviously you can.
Maybe she would report the story without bias, but the fact it's even a situation to consider is why it's inappropriate.
that predicates that she is the only one writing articles.

plenty of reporters and sports figures have hooked up / gotten married...

its not a big deal... but here?

she got the bums rush... end of the story, for good this time

The problem is that he originally told the public that the photos show an innocent interaction. And that any speculation that it was more was "laughable."

Because he said this originally (it's laughable) to the public who said this romantic resort photos are a bad look, he owed the public an apology for that and for creating the circus for putting himself in this situation.

Not if he still thinks the situation is laughable, and my bet is that he does.

mmmm I hear there is a draft for new players on Thursday. Anything else to talk about. NO? perfect

Well, then don't wear it! What a sacrifice!

Maybe loosen up on the pearls before you choke yourself? 4-13 two years running was f'n shameful. This is a slow Tuesday

Their is zero BB handbook BS here. It's always been Kraft with lawyers and the perception of the team. Not that it's a bad thing...it's just how it's been.

I put this incident behind me 2 weeks ago and the presser today with Vrabel put the nail in the coffin. Clutch your pearls all you want...that's your problem.

I wasn't too worried about this whole issue until today... But I am very disappointed.
Everyone can act with bravado about our culture's digression into infidelity as the norm, or that celebrity earns you the right to be adulterous without loss of virtue. But Vrabel has always presented his value and character as the one to hold a standard and to follow as a family-first, trustworthy and loyal organization.
His vapid statement today absolutely infers that he is guilty of more than just ill-advised contact. That was a cowardice way to not take accountability (as he preaches) and by not denying anything inappropriate, he essentially confirmed his guilt. The fact that rich and influential people do this a lot does not minimize the effect it has on the family that it hurts. And when your family life is fractured, your work life suffers. That's the full circle nature of this.
