He flat-out called Mayo "our top defender".

Guys can get emotional and exaggerate, but I think he meant it. (Or else puts Mayo second to himself.)

Of course, with McCourty having a sub-stellar start, Wilfork and Mayo are probably the team's top two defenders in anybody's estimation, in some order.
