Sadly, Bill blew most of our remaining cap space re-signing Fat Vinnie, so whatever needs
are filled will have to come from the draft, if they are filled at all.

Extending Wilfork saved money. They had $4m free now they have about $9m. If they would have cut Vince they would have had $11m.

So, no, Bill didn't blow most of the remaining cap on Vince.

DI is right. We are dealing with needs, not with the draft. Whether the draft matches up with our needs is a different discussion, although if we can't expect major help from the draft (e.g DE and LB) perhaps we will be adding a free agent or two or three, even in the six weeks before the draft.

I've been gone for a bit more than a week. Not much happened in the second week or so of free agency, except resolving Wilfork's status and re-signing Wendell. Obviously, Belichick made decisions on three key positions: DT, C, and RB.

IMHO, our biggest needs are DE, LB, TE and RB. I suspect that we'll re-sign Carter. I suspect that we will draft at least one TE, at least one RB, and at least one interior offensive lineman. I don't see a major defensive front seven player being drafted, although the need is there if a player is available, perhaps even a DT in Round 1, although I expect a tight end.

THE NEXT SIX WEEKS (BEFORE THE DRAFT)
I don't expect to see much happening, although we could have a few minor signings, trades and/or extensions.

A running back seems a strong possibility. We are certainly in a position of need. If no running back is signed, I expect that we will draft two running backs.

Just when I thought that things could not get any worse, while I'm wasting my weekend
in the Rotten Apple (right across from MSG), Bill wastes his weekend by re-signing one
of the worst Centers in football, Weak-Ass Wendy, in addition to the old, broken-down,
has-been Fat-Ass Vinnie. What a complete, utter, suicidally tragic waste of precious cap
space that should've been used on players who could've actually helped us instead of being
used on 2 players who won't.

The Wilfork extension saved us a significant chunk of cap space while keeping a quality veteran at a position of need while not committing any significant guaranteed money for the future. The Wendell contract is a backup plan in case we can't upgrade the C position before the start of the season. If we can upgrade the position its a $850k insurance policy, if we can't then its gives us a viable option at C (although not ideal). Neither of these deals will stop us from making any future moves if we want, the problem is there isn't too many quality players available that represent much value for us right now. Just wait things out, guys prices will drop and after June 1 there will be a new bunch of newly released veteran free agents for us to look at that may offer us much better value than available right now. Just be patient, its been a very good offseason so far.
