VIDEO: Bird was absolutely amazing

Funny Red story.

I used to live in San Antonio and I was waiting for a sandwich at this sub shop. Nowhere close to NE subs, but it was good for Texas. Anyway, the owner was a Boston fan and he had pics of sports teams all around the place. One pic in particular was the infamous one of Red smoking a big stogie.

So, I'm waiting, nobody else in in there and a guy comes in looking for the owner. Before I could say a word he points to the pic of Red and said " is that him?"

Goes back to Russ who didn't so much block shots as steal them mid-air and turn them into outlet passes to Cousy, etc.
The Celts were masters at turnovers turning them into points.

Free throws too while the other team gets in foul trouble. Boston just had every angle covered. LA wanted to run and gun and have a shootout, so Boston just slowed the game down as much as possible.

So many is right, and it all started with a trade for Russell.
Something positive regarding the Lakers happened and the sporting news was blowing up over it.

What did Red do?

He just made Bill Russell a Celtics player/coach. End of anyone caring about the Lakers since Russell was the first black NBA coach.

Yup. That's the one.
Only Tom Brady has brought me as much joy as Larry, among Boston sports greats.
And I saw Russell, Orr,Yaz, Hondo, Pedro,Big Papi( who I'd put 3rd after Bird and Brady) among many others.
My Dad brought me to Fenway to see Ted Williams last game, but I was only 6 and don't remember much about Teddy Ballgame.
Larry Legend.
Same here, I all athletes took it as seriously as Bird and Brady. Larry once said there are two things I like to do, play basketball and mow my lawn.
