Yeah, that Pats team was a complete train wreck both on and off the field, no doubt. The Oilers, Colts, and several renditions of the Saints were very bad too. But for as long as I can remember the 0-14 Bucs have been the undisputed pinnacle of ineptitude in the NFL. IMO that USAToday vote was more of a vote against the current Pats team and fans, than voting the '90 Pats team as the worst ever. If you had a nationwide poll asking 'what was the worst NFL team ever' without giving any choices, that Bucs team would be the first one that most NFL fans think of.

Agreed. The '76 Buccaneers were the absolute worst. They simply COULDN'T play, whereas the '90 Pats simply WOULDN'T play. There's a difference. I think.

I completely agree. I can't stand polls, personally.

Now Poles, on the other hand, are very nice people.

Reminds me of the time a woman asked me how many are on my staff. I told her, one at a time.

While the poster was correct who observed that most of the "fans" casting votes in this poll don't know their butts from their elbows and would have voted against any team with "Patriots" in its name, that does not change the fact that the 1990 team stunk. Asking whether it stunk as bad as the Bucs or any of the other "Semifinalists" is kind of like walking through a landfill and asking whether one corner smells worse than another. They stunk.

How come the '07 Dolphins are not on there?

Because the 1990 Patriots WERE the worst team ever! Without a friggin' doubt!

The '76 Bucs were an expansion team in the days when expansion could not load up for the first few season. They definitely sucked, but expectations were low.

The '90 Pats were a couple of season removed the Super Bowl, for God's sakes! They were HORRENDOUS!

We definitely deserved to go 0-16, but the Jets screwed it up, as usual!

I wasn't arguing that. I was just wondering why they left the '07 Dolphins completely off the list when they too had one of the worst seasons ever in the history of the NFL. They WERE going to go 0-16 if not for a fluke play by a complete unknown.

We are ranked worse than the freaking '76 Bucs - Thanks Rod Rust!!

Look at the bright side - At least the team won a title this year

First of all, not the worst team ever, but the worst team in the Super Bowl era.

Second of all, this poll has more to do about the ignorance of USA Today readers than it does football history.

90 Pats was the worst team ever.? If you make this decision based on a team record in NFL history, Dolphin was the WORST because of its 1-15 record.

90 Pats was the worst becausee of the drama going on between the owner and coaches? Every NFL team has this kind of problem.

90 Pats was no good but i would not consider it to be the worst team ever.

I think you are wrong there,It was not the Jets we won a game against in 1990,It was the Colts,In week 2


I remember the Washington Redskins game that year - The Patriots were so pathetic that they were down 9-0 at the end of the first quarter-without the Redskins running one offensive play! - yeah,Thats got to be a record of futility at its finest!
