For Korpisalo? That’s… a head scratcher. He’s not very good. Guess they really wanted that #25 pick.

First rounder that they lacked, a back up goaltender and a young developmental center. The deciding factor was probably Ottawa retaining part of Korpisalo's salary.

Feels like a fleecing to me. I appreciate your take, I know you follow and know the game. I’ll back off my ledge for now.

The B's pick cupboard was bare so that 1st rounder was no small thing and they net $2M in cap space. Given Ulmark has a partial no trade clause and only a year left on his deal I think Sweeney was lucky to get what he did. I also doubt he's done, they signed Bussi (Providence goaltender ready to move up) to a two way contract today as well so there's more to come...

Everyone at the local packie store thought is was a fleecing. They could not believe we got so much for Ullmark and his no trade clause. Ottawa's 1st round pick is supposed to be #7, and if the Bruins do not screw that one up, we should be able to solidify the defense.

Ullmark with the no trade clause was a bit of a "pig in a poke". The Bruins will flip Korpisalo shortly as Bussi (like @maust notes) is coming up from Providence. Since Ottawa is paying Korpisalo there will be a lot of takers. Kastelic is supposed to be solid and we will see what we get for a "free" Korpisalo. Have to like draft picks to like this trade.

What about Ullmarks contract?

The no-trade clause hamstrung Sweeney's leverage. Hes pretty good at doing good deals but this was a tough one to come out on top.

The pick they received is the one they traded to DET for Bertuzzi at Rd1/25.

Hopefully Essensa can turn Korpisalo into a decent backup. If not he'll go to Providence or they'll just buy him out save some on the cap over the next few years.

Cap savings was minimal but whatever.

I like Kastelic as part of the deal. Not afraid to mix it up and won 54% of his faceoffs. Fine for a 3rd/4th line guy.

If they can sign a 1st/2nd line C and a F, get Poitras, Brazeau and Lohrei to take that next step they'll be in great shape for next year.

The B's have been pretty good over the years at making goaltenders decent or better. Hopefully that's in Korpisalo's future in Boston as well if he stays.

they have 2 first round pick...we are getting #25 (not #7)

Lohrei was a revelation. Guessing he'll be slotted in as McAvoy's partner. Grzelcyk's fall off last season impacted McAvoy's play quite a bit, he was trying to do too much

very impressed with Lohrei last year and he should only continue to improve. Boqvist was another guy that was noticeable for me and he can really skate. Beecher and Brazeau were pleasant surprises as well so lot's of things to look forward to next year

The MINIMUM return for Ullmark, besides #25, should've been one of Norris, Pinto or Grieg to compete for one of the top-2 Centre positions PLUS a RHF with some upside such as Igor Sokolov... What the Ruins received was pennies on the dollar.

Pour a(nother) sip, Monty, you're gonna need it...

Obviously we have very different opinions of Ullmark. I don't believe he was much better than Korpisalo when he got here. That was a team won Vezina in 2023 and I suspect (barring a huge leap forward by the Sens) Ullmark's numbers are going to suffer considerably playing behind that Ottawa team.

Unless Ottowa's FO shares your opinion on Ullmark, then they still should've been compelled to surrender more for him.

For one year? Not likely
The trade illustrates the overall league wide opinion of Ullmark is much lower than the high regard most Bruins fans have for him. If Ullmark really is 'all that' then why didn't Edmonton come after him at the trade deadline when they needed to upgrade their goaltending?
