Uh oh - - Mayo After the Interception?

Chung is the best tackler on the team after Mayo. Rodney was never great at coverage either.
The problem is the scheme currently puts BOTH safeties deep almost every play (with the corners back too), when Chung's strength is to play closer to the line of scrimmage and roam around and deliver hits. The defense could dramatically improve if they found a good free safety, which would allow the corners and Chung to be more aggressive at the line of scrimmage.

I don't like the sound of that walking boot.

Foot?

Did he break it?

If by Rodney not being good at coverage, you mean that he was consistently around the ball making huge play after huge play in the passing game, then I agree with you.

that's why I don't get why Moore was let go...at least he looked decent back there!

LOL. That statement is indicative of how awful our defense has been.

Regarding Chung, he's awful in coverage. Good against run support though.

Chung is so awful in coverage that he was able to all but shut down Antonio Gates and Jason Witten when the Pats played the Chargers and Cowboys respectively..

If Chung = a group effort by multiple defenders then I agree.

Worcester Telegram & Gazette - telegram.com - Chargers' Antonio Gates non-factor vs. Patriots

The Patriots did what many teams do against Gates, having a linebacker chip him at the line of scrimmage to slow him down before defending him with a safety. Or two.

“We just hit him,” Brown said. “Hit him as much as we could and don't let him get started because as he builds — as he gets up the field — he runs better routes. So we tried to get him close to the line of scrimmage and stopped him before we get going.”

Receiver Vincent Jackson led the Chargers with a career-high 10 catches for 172 yards and two touchdowns.

“They continued to double Gates and Vincent got single coverage,” coach Norv Turner said. “That's why he kept getting the ball open in the middle.”

Worcester Telegram & Gazette - telegram.com - Patriots: Defense contains Cowboys' Jason Witten

The Patriots helped keep Witten in check by employing their tried-and-true approach of having linebacker Rob Ninkovich chip him at the line of scrimmage in hopes of disrupting his route running and timing.

“I just tried to get a jam on him any time he was on the field,” Ninkovich said. “When a receiver or tight end is trying to run his route he's not really thinking about getting hit, so when you can get a shot on him you want to make the best of it.

“Every time I was able to get a hit I was trying to basically knock him down. You have to respect a guy like that because any time you don't touch him he's going to run to the middle of the field and that's where (quarterback Tony) Romo is going to go.”
