Ron McKinnon (UFA-Saints) is still available. I know there was some talk when he was leaving Arizona that he would be a good pickup. I think he still is, and probably isn't commanding a ton of $$$. He's 6'/246# (to Tedy's 6'1"/247#), and cold easily be a 70-80 tackle guy for us.

Colvin-Bruschi-McKinnon-Vrable looks like a good starting line-up to me.

agree. he could be a good player for us but arent we trying to get younger? Hes like 33 or something right now..but i wouldnt mind him coming in for a year or 2 ..whatever hes got left to start or be a solid backup

He's been in the league for 10 years...

We're not in good shape if we have a guy like this starting, however there's room for backups and I'm sure he could do Phifer's old job (except McKinnon is an ILB and more of a run-stopper). I wouldn't mind seeing him here for the vet. min., 1-year deal... almost anyone can do a better job than what Chad Brown did for us last season.

Phifer-like is how I see him ... If he can start for a year or two and give Claridge/Beisel/Alexander some mentoring (along with Tedy) ... Why not?

By my estimation, we need to replace 3 linebackers on the roster (Willie, Chad Brown, Chatam). I expect 1 of those 3 players to be a vet. McKinnon, if he still has anything left in the tank, would be a good pickup for 1-2 years while we develop whatever day 1 prospect we pick up in a few weeks.

well he wouldnt be a bad pickup for cheap money. would add good depth, just wouldnt want him starting. if madden is any kind of gage, hes like a 88 overall...lol

The guy's done.

Knee surgery in November. Weren't we purging the roster of old, injury-prone players?

Updated Scouts, Inc. scouting report says he's only an adequate BACKUP with dwindling speed and the inability to matchup against lead blockers. Can't cover, either.

Knee surgery, yet still tallied 78 tackles on a very poor defense.

Nick griesen to me would be a great fit for the Pats, He wants to start and he wants to play on the inside. 26 years old, and so far he has found no takers. He does not want to go back to the giants as they want him to play on the outside as they have antonio pierce at MLB now.

Before the surgery.

Brad Kassel, lately of the Titans. Said it before and I'll say it again.

An instinctive player who certainly could get some mentoring by Bruschi. He was just too slow for the Titans, especially in the passing game.

Whats situation with Peter Sirmon? He asked to get traded or released by Titans. Plays OLB

One of the team’s core defensive members, Peter Sirmon’s presence was missed in 2004 due to a torn left anterior cruciate ligament. He returns healthy in 2005 to once again help lead one of the best linebacking groups in the NFL. After primarily serving on special teams during his first two seasons, Sirmon entered the starting lineup in 2002 and finished second on the team with 130 tackles. In his breakout season, he became the sixth franchise player since 1986 to reach the 130-tackle plateau, joining Al Smith, Joe Bowden, Eddie Robinson, Randall Godfrey and Keith Bulluck. He followed his 2002 performance with 141 tackles in 2003. Sirmon and Bulluck became the first set of teammates for the club since Ray Childress and Robert Lyles in 1985-86 to record 130 or more tackles each in consecutive seasons. Sirmon’s career totals include 51 games, 25 starts, 271 tackles and three interceptions. He was selected with the team’s second pick of the fourth round (128th overall) in the 2000 NFL Draft.

Sounds pretty good when healthy.

My 2 Cents

I think Griessen and Kassell would be good options as both are big enough to play in our system.

They've apparently moved him to the starting MLB.

Versatility ring to you? If he got moved to MLB and used to play OLB pretty well...tells you hes versatile and from reading about him, he sounds like a good player.

Well, it certaintly isn't because Bruschi is an 89

Why would they move him in order to start and then release/trade him?

He's getting $2.4 mil. in base salary this year, so if he was traded, that would be all the Pats would pay.
