Ty Warren Cut ! Crumpler, Kaczur, TBC, Stroud cut too

He's a thirty year old defensive lineman that not only failed his physical, but failed the conditioning test too. And this was all after he skipped last preseason to get his degree while putting off major surgery. How are some of you so shocked?

if BB pulls of a trade for Osi Umenyiora ... this may be the greatest off season ever

The whole Ty Warren cut shock and suprise last not even an hour, then we find out that the Pats may or may not be able to get his whole cap hit off the books, he flunked his physical and the conditioning test and it all makes sense now..................

Has anyone be able to figure out if they can write off the cap hits for anyone cut before the beginning of the league year, or is it just for the Jets???

Hard to say before someone gets their hands on a completed CBA. But they either changed that March 11th date for exclusion of prior dead cap to August 4th or start of league year...or they added a new clause that reportedly says cuts done now get pushed forward to 2012 and there are no dead cap repurcussions for 2011.

I wish some intrepid mediot would stop RT his peers long enough to check into it.

As I said here, the Patriots should realize about $5.6m in cap savings in 2011, followed by a "dead money" cap hit of $5.2m in 2012.

If there is something out there that says that I'm wrong on how that would work, I haven't seen it.

People have to remember we were 14-2 last year with out Warren. We just brought in Haynesworth and got back a very good corner in Bodden. This team is going to sign a couple UFA in the next 24-48 hours that will help us this year. Also you have to give Brace a real chance to make an impact you used a high 2nd round pick on him and his time is now. We will be fine.. better players than Warren have been cut by BB in much more dire circumstances.

Right now the only starters from last year (by the end of the year) not on the team are Matt Light,Gerrard Warren, and Stephen Neal. Light is likely to be back. So out of 22 starters, 20 remain. This team is a better team right now on paper from 2010.

Seems like BB is making an effort to improve the pass-rushing.Get one more decent DL and i will be elated.

But then he would no longer be a mediot. He would be alone, isolated. A brave force working hard to uncover information rather than simply creating a brash persona and reiterating controversial opinions as though he was the first to imagine them.

And all of them would shun him at the Christmas party as, "that guy that is making them all look bad".

Let's not forget the effort that Ty put in for the previous 7 or so seasons prior to getting injured last year!

Much like Seymour, I figured Ty's days here were numbered after the last two seasons. BB was said to be less than happy he opted out of the offseason to finish his degree on the heals of the AD season, and then when he went down early in camp the following year and opted for surgery, Bill was said to be miffed. There are lots of reasons you can find yourself out the door here, but lack of production value compared to compensation value is clearly one of them. So is lack of leadership or negative leadership (like setting a poor decision making example). Pioli once did a rant on priorities regarding a player who could not make OTA's because he had lab work that had to be finished to graduate... Football is the #1 priority beyond family here. Guys can finish their education when they retire given all the rhetoric about how short the average NFL career is...

Should we say the same when Brady is in a wheelchair? His time is over. We all like Ty as a person and appreciate his hard work, but it's 2011. 30 year old Ty doesn't quite seem to be up to the task mentally or physically.

sounds like someone wanted to be cut if you ask me.
Ty was a very good Patriot while he was here - sounds like he wants to go home.

We're not, but Bill wasn't paying him for that going forward, either.

Did these moves need to happen to accommodate Haynesworth and Chad's contracts?

And that could even be something Bill sensed, that Ty would be just as happy coasting somewhere closer to home base.

Nope. Chad is going to restructure so his $6M cap hit will go down. Haynesworth's is only $5.4M.

I'll go out on a limb here......

Because, if he's healthy, he was the team's second best defensive lineman, at least in terms of stable performance.

Just a wild guess, though

Re: Ty Warren Cut !

Stroud coudn't pass the physical...Warren has a 5+ million cap hit..sounds like a cut and re-sign at a lower cap number

Hmmm. Warren's cap number is pretty big and stays there through 2013. If I were his agent I wouldn't restructure so they could pay Haynesworth either. He can explore the market and still come back if NE has a credible offer on the table. He's too good and interior DLs are not that prolific out there. He's gone - maybe to Washington. If so, it's an almost even up trade for Fat Albert.

Warren's cap hit with training camp bonuses for the next three years are $5.8, $5.9 and $5.4 millon. They restructured his 2004 deal twice according to espn reports and moved money from the 2011 - 2013 years up to the middle years (2008-2010) of his deal. This is one of those deals that tests the margins of the 2008 hard cap which is where the 2011 number rests at $120 million. Too bad.

Crumpler's loss is not a big deal. Past his expiration date. TE Lee Smith is a monster who loves to block at 6'8" and is not a route runner. Think about a short yardage line of Gronk, Vollmer, Light, Koppen, Mankins, Dan Connolly and Lee Smith - seven huge, nasty, talented offensive linemen. Nice mix of youth and experience.

It ain't gonna be fun being Albert Haynesworth in full contact practice if those guys want to send him a little message to pay attention. Haynesworth is as big or bigger than all of them but he ain't never seen anything like this group of lumberjacks.

I can understand the football business - but not the general lack of empathy to Warren in the thread

He's a man who, at 30, has made more money than your average 10 people will make in their lifetimes. Forgive me if I'm not empathatic when he loses his job for being a lazy fat-ass.
