We lost a step big time here, that's why so many close games, pass rush is still a need even with Chandler Jones having a great season, he can't do it alone.

Also think that having most of your DB's at 75-80% effective has something to do with it...

As has been the case for the bulk of the 2008-2012 era, the problem with having a defense whose only real strength is causing turnovers is that in a 60 minute sample size, you cannot expect that stat to hit its norm. The games where they can't turn the ball over, you're in for a fight.

Early in the season, it looked like we had a more well-rounded defense. Thanks to an epic onslaught of injuries, that is no longer the case, and at best, we can hope for bend, but don't break, with turnover causing-potential. Our playmakers in the secondary are banged up right now, but assuming they are healthy in January, they'll start making smome plays.

The defensive backfield has been ripped with injuries. Talib is obviously still battling his hip injury, Dennard has a few of them, Arrington has been fighting injuries all season long, and Gregory looks like he's still on the mend. McCourty has been healthy but quarterbacks are generally staying away from him and are either targeting the other side of the field or going after the LB's underneath with TE's and RB's. Given the injuries and the lack of speed in the LB corps now that Mayo went down, it's no surprise that the defense has been having trouble generating turnovers.

That said, if they can find a way to limit the yardage and get off the field on third down (which means, *GASP*, stopping a routine screen every now and then), the inability to generate turnovers won't mean as much. But since they're also allowing a ton of yardage which is translating into more points, the lack of turnovers are a huge deal.

or simply tackle like was the case on the 4th down play vs miami.

Even before the ball was snapped on that 4th down, did you have any confidence in the defense's ability to get off the field?
