PATRIOTS TRAINING CAMP Training Camp Day 7 - July 30

Camp is about competition. There are 3 guys competing for 2 jobs. They should not decide anything this early, they should have camp competition. It’s exactly what strengthens a team.
There is no where near a certainty that Wilson is better at G than C nor that Strange is better at C then G.
This is a pretty big overreaction to how they lined up one day early in camp.
Not quite just an overreaction to how they lined up. By all accounts, Wilson has been steadily moving up the ladder and every news outlet that is in attendance is reporting Wilson looks extremely good. His teammates are saying the same thing. So while I agree nothing should be given this early in camp, let's not pretend this is simply an overreaction to how they lined up, it's how they are performing and the overwhelming opinion from everyone with firsthand knowledge is that Wilson is earning the job, not being given it.

Chism has been very quiet so far in training camp. This is the first time I remember him being mentioned. He looks to be practice squad bound unless he starts to show what he showed in minicamp soon.

Mostly has been with the 3s, so no one is going to tweet about it. You get updates on the 1s and sometimes the 2s. Chism seems to be dominating the 3s but no one is going to be watching the 3s much when the 1s are out there.

Sounds like he is moving up to at least the 2s since he got a short stint with the 1s and we heard some reports of him with Dobbs.

My guess is if he is not seeing more time with the 1s by the first preseason game, he will ball out in the second half ans force the issue.

Too early

Wilson appears to be a better OG today than Strange. I can only assume they like him at OG so him and Campbell are beside each other. What better way to help Campbell's development than putting the best LG, and probably our best lineman in camp so far on his inside shoulder. That said Strange should get opportunity at C this year. Beyond that, well I guess Stange is the master of his own destiny. If he doesn't work out, many teams, Pats included have done well drafting and developing Centers on day 3 of the draft.

Are you ****ing KIDDING! (sorry it's 2am and I'm cranky). There have been THREE padded practices and some of you guys are declaring winners at OL positions.

Tell me when did you meet with Vrabel to discuss today's practice goals. To find out how they planned to dole out practice time in the first 2 groups. And find out what new individual techniques, group goals, and team instillations would occur.

The answer is that you didn't and have NO idea about those critical things. NONE of us do, including the media. Every practice football practice from HS to the pros is made up of individual group and team segments. Each segment is designed to teach specific things to specific players. Each segment will see various players thrown in various combinations to evaluate individuals and how they interact together.

I understand the temptation to make some inferences, but too many are going well beyond that and are making cases for ultimate judgements and trying to sell it to us. I always thought we had smarter fans than that.

BTW- Based on the BC history and his last name. I'm guessing the new C signing is the brother or relative of All Pro Falcon G Chris Linstrom who is of interest to me because I coached his Dad Eric in HS. Interesting though I've seen no mention of this from the media so far.

He's Chris Lindstrom's brother. His father is Chris Sr, a former NFL DE.

Eric is his uncle.

I think a lot of it comes down to doing a much better job identifying value and being ahead of the ball this year. They frequently took guys at a position other teams were not picking at the time, and then their pick would start a run on that position. In 2024, they were frequently chasing and selecting guys at a position at the end of a run, so probably “settled” for a guy they were not as high on.

You can probably chalk it up to Wolf really being a scout at heart and not having a great feel for this. Cowden, Streicher and Vrabel helped smooth out the operation. Perhaps Wolf and his staff are good at identifying talent but were simply bad at actually maneuvering appropriately to acquire it. Time will tell.
I think it is mostly Cowden.

I didn’t declare anything. Im
Not there, so how could I. From the reports of people who are there, Wilson has outperformed Strange to date and has arguably been the best Olineman in individual 1 on 1s and the team portions of practice. Now that could certainly change, but it’s starting to be a trend, not a fluke.

Nobody is kidding you... it seems like even Caedan Wallace is ahead of that Strange dude. Yeah Strange is overrated here: I find it really strange no pun.

To declare Wilson the permanent LG is somewhat of an overreaction. However, to say that he is at the front of the line is an overreaction is simply untrue. He has been getting more and more reps each practice, has seemed to have the best performance out of all LG candidates, and now got first crack with the 1s while his main competitor was sent off to 2nd team center. There's a pretty clear trend line here.

For them to play him there and have him ahead of the Former First Rounder speaks volumes to me. 2022 was an abysmal Draft year for us a lot of BB Specials.
