I may be biased but I still think Maye can be the best QB in this class.
I also think Spencer Rattler is taking that job In NO sooner than later.
He was a guy I wouldn’t of hated taking in the third after drafting Marvin Harrison Jr and a tackle in the second.
Maye WILL be the best QB in the class, I have no doubt.
Rattler is 6 feet tall
The success rate of QB's that size is a very small %.
Lots of nerdy info on QB size below (feel free to skip if not your thing):
FYI, the perfect QB size analytically related to success is 6 feet 4 and 5/8" to 6 feet 5 1/4". Joe Milton was the only 2024 prospect in the perfect range FYI.
If you take 6 feet 2 to 6 feet 5 and 1/8 you have the range historically of the top 5 QB's.
If you are not that height range, you are looking at low odds of becoming a top 5 NFL QB.
If your Bryce Young you'd be off my draft board, E.G. since 2003 there has been zero QB's that ended top 5 fantasy QB at 5 feet 10.
This is why I do not understand the poor scouting of NFL college QB's. The data is overwhelming what works at a high percentage. You can eliminate Bryce Young on height alone. Maybe 4th round if you wanted to take a flyer on him overcoming that since 4th round picks are a 10% success rate anyways.
Pretty simple starting point:
Under 6 feet: Draft 4th round or later. Only draft at all if they have elite scrambling or running
Over 6 but Under 6 feet 2: Don't draft in the top 20, only draft if they are good scrambling or running
Between 6 feet 2 and 6 feet 5 1/4: Draftable top 5
Above that height same as the under 6 feet 2.
Obviously, you can round up or down from actual height.
I understand there are a few outliers, but NFL teams should not risk a top 5 pick and going against the % to hope to hit one of the small % of outliers. You want a middle of the road QB and surround them with great talent like Tua, fine, just not my approach.
So we will see if Caleb Williams has elite enough scrambling and playmaking ability to overcome his height issue.
