Training camp/cuts news from around the league

Yep also #49 whoever he is won’t be long for that team if he keeps running his routes like that.

Some UDFA TE named Shawn Bowman. Never heard of him before now, and I'm sure I won't hear of him again either.

Nice throw.

Williams in Chi reportedly has been really good thus far.
I've watched a lot of him in camp, he's a definite upgrade for them. Looking past the highlights He has had some accuracy issues in training camp and continues to not have a good deep ball.
BUT the biggest question mark with him is his absolute fear of being hit which doesn't show up until you get pads in a real game where you can be hit.
Playmaker with good arm but has limits. Really interested to see him in a real game, 50/50 shot whether he turtles. If he can grow some, he has a chance to be good. I do think he'll be a must watch on Sundays regardless of which direction he goes.
He has a great situation with the line and receiving weapons, hard to see him being bad with that offense.

I may be biased but I still think Maye can be the best QB in this class.
I also think Spencer Rattler is taking that job In NO sooner than later.
He was a guy I wouldn’t of hated taking in the third after drafting Marvin Harrison Jr and a tackle in the second.

Like a replay from last year, his brain seemed weaker than his arm. It took so long and was so obvious where he was trying to go that Josh Allen would have had a hard time getting the ball to the receiver.
This ^

His arm is no weaker than Kirk Cousins, his brain is weak.

Whoa... Michael Gallup retires. Guess that ACL injury was too much to overcome.

Wanted us to kick the tires on him too...

Maye WILL be the best QB in the class, I have no doubt.
Rattler is 6 feet tall
The success rate of QB's that size is a very small %.

Lots of nerdy info on QB size below (feel free to skip if not your thing):

FYI, the perfect QB size analytically related to success is 6 feet 4 and 5/8" to 6 feet 5 1/4". Joe Milton was the only 2024 prospect in the perfect range FYI.

If you take 6 feet 2 to 6 feet 5 and 1/8 you have the range historically of the top 5 QB's.
If you are not that height range, you are looking at low odds of becoming a top 5 NFL QB.
If your Bryce Young you'd be off my draft board, E.G. since 2003 there has been zero QB's that ended top 5 fantasy QB at 5 feet 10.

This is why I do not understand the poor scouting of NFL college QB's. The data is overwhelming what works at a high percentage. You can eliminate Bryce Young on height alone. Maybe 4th round if you wanted to take a flyer on him overcoming that since 4th round picks are a 10% success rate anyways.

Pretty simple starting point:
Under 6 feet: Draft 4th round or later. Only draft at all if they have elite scrambling or running
Over 6 but Under 6 feet 2: Don't draft in the top 20, only draft if they are good scrambling or running
Between 6 feet 2 and 6 feet 5 1/4: Draftable top 5
Above that height same as the under 6 feet 2.
Obviously, you can round up or down from actual height.

I understand there are a few outliers, but NFL teams should not risk a top 5 pick and going against the % to hope to hit one of the small % of outliers. You want a middle of the road QB and surround them with great talent like Tua, fine, just not my approach.

So we will see if Caleb Williams has elite enough scrambling and playmaking ability to overcome his height issue.

With Tua's concussion history it's hard to blame the Fins for holding back on the guaranteed $ tbh.

The Fins have (I think) hitched their wagon to the wrong pony. They're stuck with him now and will have to pay him or miss the window for winning they've carefully constructed. Thing is, even if they sign him, they aren't going to win with him. Not a championship.

Williams in Chi reportedly has been really good thus far.
Chicago had first padded practice today, outside 2-minute drill at the end the defense dominated, o-line looked bad, Caleb looked panicky, took eyes off the receivers when pressured.
Looked great whenever he had time to throw or could scramble and be in the open.
One good deep ball was the 40 yard TD to end 2-minute drill, receiver had 2 steps on DB and after a scramble to get himself wide open to throw he made a well-placed throw to receiver though ball wobbled all the way there. He missed a couple earlier throws to open guys downfield. Overall, definitely Still struggles with the deep ball.
Same mixed bag as in college at first padded practice. Bad deep ball, panics under pressure, looks like an all pro when not throwing deep or not facing pressure. He's a fascinating prospect.
Surprised the Chicago O line looked so bad; they are rated pretty highly.

The exact opposite of the Pats: a defense that can't stop a nosebleed and an offense loaded with talent
