Putting this here now to see which lineup we might match this year ...

http://blogs.eagletribune.com/smitt...nking-the-top-10-red-sox-lineups-of-all-time/

Here's the 2003 Red Sox Home Runs Record - 238
Manny Ramirez - 37
David Ortiz - 31
Nomar Garciapara - 28
Trot Nixon - 28
Jason Varitek - 25
Kevin Millar - 25
Bill Mueller - 19
Todd Walker - 13
Johnny Damon - 12
Others .................20

That team should have gone to and won the WS. One of my favorite Sox teams.

This thread is a jonah .... absurd that I even posted it.

Napoli - Ortiz - Victorino .... absent.

My favorite two lineups were the 75 and 77 teams. I loved watching the young outfield of Rice, Lynn, and Evans in 75. The gracefulness of Lynn his rookie year still resonates in my mind. The 77 team had a great summer, mashing their way to what most years would have produced a championship. I especially loved the stretch when they hit all those homers, specifically the four in the first inning against Catfish Hunter, and the slew they hit against Baltimore. For any of you old timers, do you recall the image of Dennis Martinez drilling Boomer, and then Scott charging the mound? The Globe had a great picture back then of Boomer being pinned down by the pitcher's mound while Martinez is busy running away to the outfield. Good times…

the 75 season is my second favorite season of all time right behind 04. one can only imagine what would have been if rice was healthy for the world series. the long break between games 6 and 7 due to weather hurt the sox. still what a magical world series and season that was. i wonder how many more titles the sox would have if there was a wild card back then. i remember the team missing the playoffs more then once when they had mid to upper 90 win seasons.

Ah, the summer of '77…those homers v Catfish were on a Friday night (a rare Friday night home broadcast on TV38), then the next game, a nationally-televised game, which I attended in the right field bleachers, was the Billy Martin-Reggie Jackson brouhaha.
We had a perfect view of the proceedings: Jackson loafing on a base hit allowed either the batter to take 2nd base or a run to score (I forget which), Martin sends Paul Blair to replace him, they talk for a couple of seconds, Jackson trots to the dugout, we're watching
him the whole way because we know something's about to happen, and sure enough it does.
Good times, good times...

Wow, talk about a birds eye view of the Martin-Jackson dustup!! It was Jim Rice who hit what should have been a single to right. When he saw Jackson jogging in to field it, Rice took second. I remember the TV camera showing Jackson in the dugout taking off his glasses, and if it wasn't for Elston Howard acting as peacemaker, there would have been a battle.

Elston Howard, one of the vets added for the '67 run; I had forgotten that it was he who separated Jackson & Martin.
