I assume you're basing this on John Hannah's classless comments about Eason, months after the SBXX loss. Speaking of "no balls", Hannah made those "Eason wears a skirt" remarks after he retired. BTW, nobody mentions how poorly the O-line played in that game and that the SB MVP was DE Richard Dent. It's easier to just blame Eason I guess.
He was also a much better QB than Grogan, both statistically and in regards to his team's success.
Since the end of the 1976 season, Grogan flat out sucked against any elite team he played. Moreover, from 1979-1980, Grogan couldn't get his teams into the playoffs, despite having easy schedules in those years. Those seasons were the most fustrating I've ever had to endure as a Pats fan. BTW, he did toss two INTs in SBXX which is one of the main reasons Da Bears scored 46 points.
That goes without saying. At least we agree here. However, the Bledsoe supporters were fervent during the playoffs and even shortly after SB 36 for mainly the same reasons I've heard fans preferred Grogan over Eason: Drew's got a better arm, he's been with team for so long we hate to seem him go away, Brady didn't put up great numbers despite winning the SB, etc.
I'm not saying Eason was as good as Brady, only that their circumstances were similar. In 2001, the Pats handled Brady with kid gloves, but since 2002, Brady had shed his dink and dunk reputation. The Pats have been near the bottom of the league in short pass attempts since 2002.
One more thing, since Grogan is being cannonized for simply throwing a TD pass in SB XX (and 2 INTs), guess who'd rather have a game with no TDs and no INTs than a multiple TD game with an INT?
