Tomase: I screwed up and will offer full explanation in Friday's Herald

Tomase is in deep obviously, and it might be irreprebale damage for him. And that's a fact.

But, what exactly do you want him to do here besides apoligize and explain himself? He can't go back in time and rewrite his story for February 2nd.

So I understand why Tomase and the Herald are dead to some of you. That's fine. But don't get on Tomase here because I don't know what else you want him to do at this point.

I'm trying to get what your point here is Joe......What he NEEDS to do.....is RESIGN....if they do not fire him first.......

There is no rationale he can offer to "explain" his way out of this. He can go one of two routes: he can try to somehow justify what he did journalistically, or he can get all weepy and personal and beg forgiveness. Either way would be pathetic and inadequate.

I was a newspaper reporter for 17 years, the initial part of that as a sportswriter. I now publish a music magazine. I've never seen anything like this, anywhere. Tomase and the Herald committed a professional cardinal sin and are trying to wriggle free. I'm embarrassed for and ashamed of him and his editors.

If he outs himself ("I made it up"), his career in journalism is done. The same could be said if he outs his source (and it turns out to be anyone other than Matt Walsh). If it's Walsh and he lied to Tomase, maybe he gets some credibility back...
If there was no source, his only choice is to "protect his source" until his career is over...... (option C)

No, Yesterday after the Godell press conference his lead headline was something to the effect of the Patriots Spied on the Rams by having Walsh at the walk through. This was up for an hour. It only came down after a few hundred comments were posted. He has to answer for this too.

You're a lot more forgiving than most of us. I think Casale should have been ass-canned just for what he did here. You guys worked OT to out him, and now he's your boy...whatever.

Life is all about choices. John's made poor career choices, more than once. Both he and his employer are being a little too cavalier with the oops, my bad crap. Unless he tells us the Herald held a gun to his head (and as a result his editor or his supervisor gets canned) nothing he says will float IMO. And because I watched him back his Manny diatribe on air as well as in print, even as his peers cringed for him back then, I'm not holding my breath that this was anyone's big idea as much as it was John's. He has an agenda, not against Belichick per se, he was just a target of convenience - like Manny. Tomase's agenda is advancing his career by any means available.

I don't need him to tell me what happened. I know his source was basically Walsh telling others he taped the walkthrough. But I had figured that out a long time ago. I wouldn't even be surprised if one of his peers hasn't arranged for him to break a not too distant future story to save his ass. Holley was hinting today that when the story of who connected Walsh with Levy breaks it will be it's own little scandal. My guess would be either a media or a League insider. But you can't turn back the clock on what he did. Never will be able to either as long a one ******* mediot with an agenda is still breathing. What the Cleveland media did to Bill perception wise dogged him even through 3 superbowls. Once you commit something to print, it never ever entirely goes away.

In a sense I agree with you. I am also willing to give a second chance where warranted. In this instance he knew exactly what he was doing by releasing the story just before the SB. IMO it was done with purpose and malice and put the franchise and fans through a lot of pointless BS. People make mistakes everyday that break no laws like cheating on their spouses. At the end of divorce court they pay a stiff penalty. Belichick and the Pats paid a very hefty penalty for their wrong doings. I'll give Tomasse a second chance after he too has paid a penalty. 4 to 6 weeks suspension from the paper with no pay works for me. Let him flip burgers for awhile.

If Tomase wants to redeem himself in any way, shape, or form he should begin and lead a personal crusade to reveal Senator ***hat for the self-serving, greedy scum that he is and help to clear some of the damage he helped to incur on the Patriots and Bill Belichick.
