Tom Brady wins MVP.

I really thought they were going to give it to Gurely. Pleasantly surprised and while I dont think he will get five its definitely nice to have him get three

Tom Brady does not care about league MVP.

There is only one award important to him. And that will be decided tomorrow.

Patriot of the week.

Look if we are going to start bashing the Patriot of the Week award in this thread then I’m OUT!

Hmm.....an MVP QB hasn't won the SB since Warner. Passing leader has never won the SB.... Patriots haven't won the SB in an odd numbered year since 03....

Skip Bayless also just completed his facebook rant: A) He thinks the Patriots are fueling Philly's fire with the BB basketball game & Tom vs time airing this week. B) He thinks the Eagles are a better overall team, claiming the Patriots D can be had. Might be a long day for the goat, he says. C) 20 percent of BB may want Brady to lose tomorrow, thus proving to the world he was right for wanting to keep Jimmy G.

Regards,

Big Dave

Was curious so I looked up players that won MVP and SB in the same year, not sure if that's all of them.
Bradshaw 78, Montana 89, Young 94, Favre 96, Warner 99, Terrell Davis 98, Emmit Smith 93, Lawrence Taylor 86, Mark Moseley 82.

Just goes to show how difficult it is to win a SB title in an absolute team sport like football even if you have the leagues best player on your team.

@luuked
What someone could do is, for each year since say '78, figure out how many games the MVP would have to win after the regular season to win the Super Bowl. We'd expect the MVP to win roughly 1/2^k of these where k is the number of games, assuming (unrealistically) that each team was equally likely to win. We could then sum this value to get the expected value of number of won Super Bowls versus the actual number of won Super Bowls, just to get an idea of the impact of an MVP. Just eyeballing these numbers, it doesn't look to me like there is an MVP curse.

I think it all boils down to the MVP titles being overrated and borderline meaningless in a team sport where inches matter. When Ryan won last year did the Falcons really have a big advantage over the Pats with Brady as QB ? Similarly when Manning won for the record setting Denver season in 2013 was his presence really so much more worth than what the Seahawks had on defense ?

It is a nice individual honor and talking point for people that love to talk legacy and do those mind numbing multipage discussions on PlayerX vs PlayerY but apart from that it really has not much bearing on a team winning or not.

I love Twitter.

So I saw several Kellerman posts here but didn't give it much thought, because mercifully I haven't follow any mainstream sports media for years. And I saw @Joker's Kellerman thread, but assumed Joe Kerr was overreacting, as he's sometimes wont to do.

But then, FML I happened across a clip on youtube featuring this ****sucker.

****!

I experienced visceral rage like I haven't in a decade. GOD I want to open this mother****er's face up! This smarmy, bottom feeding, mediot parasite, entitled little **** from NY...running his mouth off about the GOAT like he could ever sniff his jockstrap. This piece of **** represents perfectly the cancer that is contemporary media. Sensationalism is all that matters, journalistic integrity be a goddamned roadside turd.

I cant WAIT for this game and for this oxygen thief to get suicidal. Pats by 2 scores...book it, ***erman.

As long as the trend of losing the SB after winning the award doesn’t continue!

I'll bet a lot of the country was starting to think Brady wouldn't get it after watching NFLN parade out people all week long that created their own brand of criteria to diminish Brady's year as compared to the other candidates.

All media does that, its the Lebron effect. When youre the gold standard you need to be platinum for people to give you credit

I think Brady was better in the regular season in 2015 and 2016, but he deserves to win at least one from the period of 2015-17. If you look at his production over the three year span, it’s amazing how much better he was than Newton or Ryan, who clearly had outlier seasons. Brady’s 2017 season was great, but in most years that would not be enough to win the award. He deserved to get some good luck this season.

The criteria changes from year to year and person to person, depending upon the agenda du jour. We see that even more obviously with Coach of the Year than with the MVP.

It's absolutely insane to think that Brady could win MVP and I don't even give a ****. He's won a few, he's at his 8th Super Bowl with a chance to win his 6th, I don't think he cares right now at all.

We have been absolutely positively spoiled in the BB/Brady era.
