Tom Brady best NFL player all time?

Generally people have come to the conclusion Brady is the GOAT QB (you will never convince everyone).

So now the question is what is left to measure Brady against and what he needs to do to achieve it. I think the next logical question is how does he stack up vs other GOAT NFL plays (maybe even guys in different sports) and what he needs to do if he wants to be considered the best in those conversations.

Personally I do not believe Brady is the best NFL player of all time right now. However if he wins it all without Gronk this year that gives him 5 SB wins and 7 trips and now i think that really becomes a question and maybe gives him the nod over other guys.

For some just playing with great efficiency for 3-5 more years would do it.

My question is what do you think he would need to do to go down as the best NFL player (also lets not bring up guys in the 1950s or earlier please)

FYI: Players I have ahead of Brady are LT (the real one), Rice, Brown and Hannah. That is pretty much it.

You can't do it with any clear metric. I tend to look at dominance within position all time and over contemporaries within position as well as just plain old eye test. Also length of greatness is important as well as potency of greatness.

It is less clear of course but what is left to measure him against to try to figure out how good he is?

I don't think he needs any additional accomplishments... however, I personally would like his next Super Bowl victory to eliminate from this discussion the word "kryptonite."

Definitely very tough to compare between different positions. If he wins a 5th though, that would pretty much secure his stance as the best QB, and I would think the wide majority of people would then agree on what we already know.

With QB being considered the most vital position on a football team and the acclaim that accompanies it, I think that would be enough to propel Brady into the conversation of greatest player ever, period. That's all you could really ask for.

There's always going to be debate no matter what, but I think the above would put Brady on the short list of every GOAT player conversation.

Let's assume three more years at this level. If he were to end up with:

5 titles

Most passing yards (roughly 11K depending on what Bres does during that period of time)

Most TDs (roughly 80 depending on what Bres does) and he would do it with far fewer interceptions than Bres or Manning.

250 total wins, this one might be a stretch but lets assume he's down to 45 after this year it's not unquestionable. 50 more than Manning and probably with less losses.

Post season wins. Lets say he only gets three more. That puts him 10 up on Montana and 12 up on Elway, Bradshaw and Manning.

10,000 playoff passing yards. He's just shy of 8K and already 600 ahead of Manning. 7 games of 300 yards might be a bit much but he should at least get to 9K.

70 playoff TDs, he has 56 and Montana is second with 45. 7 games averaging 2 and he's 25 up on second place.

Rice is right up there for sure with Brady and the others you mentioned. He left the 49ers and signed with the Raiders when he was Brady's age... and he went on to have 2 productive seasons, at a position which required more speed than the QB and where an age dropoff would be much more noticeable.

I think Bill is right. Now if Tom DOES play 3-4 more years and gets at least another ring, it will be a great debate.

He's definately in the conversation right now...especially if he wins his 5th Super Bowl ring without Gronk
