Depression can strike anyone,regardless of wealth or status,although those that have that can sometimes be labelled as "eccentric" rather than having disorders,I realize it is difficult for us to relate to these people who have so much,but that doesnt mean they are immune from thse things.

Not a psychiatrist, but it sure sounds like the guy has bipolar mental disorder. The manic behavior which we have all seen too many times, now the depressive side, are pretty clear signs. This is very treatable. Maybe he's lucky he's "come out" with it and now they can get on with treatment.

Back to reality, people often try suicide several times before succeeding. It can be a cry for help that is best heeded. Obviously, TO is somewhat depressed. Whether it's clinical bipolar, some other form of neural chemical imbalance or overwrought emotions at a dangerous level we and even capable folks treating him cannot be certain. We we do know is that he needs help. Let's hope that the Cowboys org is professional in ensuring he gets the competent and extensive help he obviously needs.

There is going to such an information overload over the next 12 hours. The Cowboys have called a press conference for 2:30, where I suspect they will say it was an allergic reaction. Already the girlfriend who called for help has said he was not trying to kill himself. SO who even knows. But during his time on the 49ers and the Eagles, both organizations thought he needed serious mental help, so at this point, either scenario (allergic reaction or suiciide attempt) seems perfectly plausible to me.

I'll never understand how someone living that life, playing that game, and making that money can be depressed.

That's because you don't understand depression. More often than not it derives from a combination of brain chemistry imbalance and faulty thought patterns developed during infancy/early childhood. Some of the most successful people in the world suffer from depression, it's not a matter of circumstances or "choice." Meds, a good therapist and spiritual help usually spell the difference.

I think so too. I am having a very difficult time imagining the Dallas press conference saying "Yeah, he tried to kill himself." They will say it was an allergic reaction and that he was unable to respond properly to questions when the police asked if he had tried to harm himself.

You've got HIPAA and privacy issues involved and the longer it takes for information to be released, the more people will think it was a suicide attempt and/or a cry for help......

Tuesday, Owens was involved in launching a national campaign for the National Alliance to End Abuse, an organization aimed at helping at-risk youngsters. He appeared at a high school Tuesday morning and was scheduled to visit others but had to cancel because of changes in the team's practice schedule.

The way I read it was that it was an EMPTY bottle that previously contained 40 pills.. before the incident he had only taken 5, which means he tried to OD on 35 pills. Am I misreading that?

I find it sad that you won't waste any of your time sympathising with Terrell Owens but that you have enough of it to post on an internet forum calling him an "overpaid crybaby" and a "loser".

Facing that kind of hostility from thousands of people whom they have never met can't make the life of a sports star any easier.

Well, now the ESPN breaking news is that the attempted suicide story is being disputed, which is hardly shocking.

Either way, this story is a huge distraction in a long line of many for the Dallas Cowboys. I mean, you have to wonder what Jerry Jones and Bill Parcells are really thinking.

I dont know why he would try to commit suicide but obviously there is something we dont know about him. He has been injured yet another time and he didnt even play half of last year but I dont think that could possible be the case.
