To Contend Deep In The Playoffs, We NEED An All-pro WR, NOT!

the team has a few complimentary WR's that can be nice contributors.
but the league has evolved from the examples listed on this thread from 10 and 15 years ago, that used to play for the team.
it's an offensive league, thriving on offensive scheme and mismatches, buoyed by the league rules.
the team currently does not have an offensive weapon that other teams need to scheme for, double team to create for others. they don't have an offensive weapon that once the ball is in his hands, can score from anywhere on the field.
that player does not have to cost $100m. that player does not have to be the #4 pick in the draft. we see players like AJ Brown, Worthy, JJ, CD Lamb, Puka, Thomas Jr, St Brown all drafted after 1-15
All points mentioned are valid . Is why I always felt that in order to get that player it would have to be by trade. There are options for us.. Adams is expected to be released..kupp, Deebo, slayton, and other names. Simply having a guy to take coverage would significantly help the offense out as the other guys would have favorable match ups.. plus we have McDaniels mastery on offense.

I think it's time to for us to wake up from the tee Higgins dream.. Cincy announced they are working to extend Higgins.. so trade is best way to secure a WR.. here's what the plan should be:

Adams will be released. Sign him. He's familiar with Josh and he raved about Josh and his abilities as an offensive coach. He'd thrive here and even at 32 he still has game left in him.

Try to trade for DJ Moore or kupp or deeboo... Vrabel should also put pressure on Philly to see.. how serious they are about AJ Brown.. there are plenty of options for js to explore. I will say again that 3rd rounder for judon was a excellent move by wolf. Our FA focus should be on the trenches.. OL&DL.. go after BJ hill, chase young on the DL. If Carter is there at 4 take him with no hesitation.

Jackson or Stanley at LT will do just fine.
That’s not how I remember it. Adams expressed frustration with the offense McDaniels put in place since he wasn’t getting the ball from Garoppolo.

Also keep in mind Adams went to the Raiders so he could be reunited with his college teammate Derek Carr, only for the Raiders to release him a year later.

Maye is way better than what Adams experienced with Garoppolo, so maybe he is more receptive to working with McDaniels again. But I think it’s much, much more likely that Adams signs with a contender instead given he’s getting to test the free agent waters for the first time in his long career.

Right. And adams recently said he appreciated Josh bringing him to LV just the type of scheme he ran, wich was basically patriots brady offense as statue Jimmy was the QB as you mentioned.

Absolutely Drake is better.. the possibilities of what Josh can do with Drake is endless. Adam never said anything negative about Josh even on Kay adams show he was speaking about how much of a great offensive mind he was. Sometimes the players don't fit the scheme. However I'm sure adams wouldn't be opposed of coming here to play with Drake.

I don't know if this has been said on here or not, but if you look at the last ten years in the NFL, the team that invested by far the most resources in terms of money and draft capital in the offensive line, and it isn't even close, and there's a noticeable gap between them and second place is..... the Giants.

The Giants with all that investment were rewarded with... a bottom 1/3rd line in the league.

You can just marry yourself to a position group and say "this is the priority" and think you can will it to be fixed. It has toe be the right guys at the right time and you need to have great evaluation. Especially at a positional group where college really isn't developing them.

Maye's arm talent and mobility remind me mostly of Rodgers, whom Adam's thrived with.
I love Adams, even at his age. but the "how much for how long" question obviously is in play. as is the "does he want to play in NE question".

really some positives not really mentioned;
-Wolf not over reaching last year on a weak free agent year, and not squandering and of the teams stash. sure, some free agent players did not work out, but there were no Jonnu, Agholor signings.
-Vrabels diverse staff gives the team tentacles all over the league. rather than Judon tweeting recruits, begging them to come here, a coach like Josh can have a conversation with a player like Adams, clearly and concisely discussing with Adams how he will be featured and utilized over the next 2, maybe 3 season, most likely cementing his HOF credentials.
-the Pats, with a player like Adams, can front load deals, rather than back load with fake money never to be seen at the back end. huge importance to a player like Adams, most likely signing his last deal

Bravo! That's an excellent post! Perfectly worded. I agree with everything you said. For example we would have been 1 of many teams interested in Higgins.. so maybe this is the best thing that could have happened for the team. Adams absolutely is a guy that at 32 still can play at a high level. I say offer him a 3 year deal if we got 2 out of him with Drake then that's phenomenal. We still have polk and baker to develop under Josh. Wolf actually had a better 2024 off season in retrospect.. 3rd rounder for judon who now is a shell of his former self, not over reaching to beg guys to come here to play with Brissett at the time. Carrying over cap space to 2025.

I believe our current roster is filled with maybe 5 possible starting caliber players outside of Drake and gonzo. Say we get Adams, kirk, and deebo at WR I'd be ok with that group to start the season... plus we don't know who currently on the roster will emerge as well.

On Jonnu Smith, have you considered it was his fit and not the player? He started blooming in 2020 and died when he came here. He went to ATL and put up 3 TD on 50 receptions for 582 yards. Then he went to Miami and put up 8 TD on 88 receptions for 884 yards.

Adams also said the offense was a nickel and dime offense.

We need to sign a starting LT and a backup LT. We have no choice. But long-term, I agree that the OL should be built primarily through the draft and through good coaching.

He had no business making the money he did when he came here having a top TE contract for a short period. However, he was a better player than advertised. Josh McDaniels did a very poor job with him and tried to make like another RB catching screen passes while constantly running through trash. He was set up to fail in NE.

Welkie was a middle of the road WR with the Phins
he became a HOF WR while here, and redefined a position

He wasnt middle of the road, the was the speedy white guy who wasn’t afraid to take a hit

Not too surprising that when he had Tom Brady throwing him the ball and not Cleo Lemmon or the corpse of Daunte Culpepper he excelled
