Three Waiver Wire Pickups

As cool as it is get promoted to a 53 man roster from a practice squad. You know it has to be weird doing training camp and preseason with one team and then showing up a week before the season with another team. Especially as a rookie. I hope AJ and his family make the adjustment well. Welcome to the Pats family.

Where are my manners? Welcome to the other 2 as well.

Maybe McCourty again? Or Amendola?

Seems unlikely but they did try Blount out there in PS. Can't see that working in reality though. Have to think Boyce.

Amendola as KR = heart failure for me.

Blount = Patrick Pass, no fumbles and 20-25, which is enough for me.

If Vereen were to get injured, would you rather Ridley be a 3 down RB pr make Bolden the 3rd down RB?

Ridley, hands down. Bolden doesn't look smooth catching the ball.

If Boyce can return kicks it might get him on the 45-man roster for all 16 games...Can't see them carrying all six WR on game day. Dobson might be inactive a few?

Boyce is definitely the best option to replace Washington. He's the fastest player on the team and had the highest KR average of all the Patriots returners in the PS.

Just a thought, but good Boyce be used in a backup to Vereen role? I'm thinking about that wheel route that Washington nearly hit on against the Giants. Could easily see Boyce running a route like that. They also seemed to want to put the ball in Boyce's hands with those two reverses. I'm not suggesting a straight up switch to RB but maybe a sort of hybrid role.

I would be a little concerned with Boyce being the primary kickoff returner despite his speed. If you watch how he runs closely, he shows signs of not keeping the ball close to his body and most of his speed is straight line.

I would expect Vereen and McCourty to handle the kickoff duties this year before Boyce.

Incredibly small sample size in the pros, he was considered a good pass catcher coming out of college (76 807 10.6 6 TD). Probably a better blocker than Ridley and Vereen too.

Intresting idea. I could see Edelman doing it as well. I think he's been in the backfield before, albeit limited snaps and situation.

I think Edelman goes back to punt returner. As much as I hate it, you cant play scared. BB never has.

Agreed. I was suggesting he add backup 3rd down duties to his repertoire...
