He was acquired under Belichick, who was the guy who signed off on every player transaction. Sort of can't pick and choose there.
At the same time, I don't fault them, as Lowe was highly regarded at the time as a promising young prospect. I remember reading a couple of positive things about him, and he's actually come a long way in terms of being a serviceable player. He's clearly not an all-pro, but when healthy, he's adequate enough to get you through a season. Albeit, he's not ideal by any means.
He's certainly not the guy you'll want starting any meaningful games in the postseason or during a championship run, but he's good enough for where they are currently, at least given their current depth chart. Don't get me wrong, I'm not comfortable with him being their only option, but I feel like he'll hopefully be decent enough to get them through 2024 until they can replace him next offseason.
