The Wildcat is coming!!!!

I respect the Wildcat. It seems like old timey smash mouth football to me. And Brown and Williams are excellent backs.

That being said, I look for the Pats to vigorously stroke the cat this weekend until it's sweaty and swollen and then expect the Fins to submisively roll over.

Agreed. I expect the Pats to stroke the cat until it's prostate is hurting.

I always thought cats hate the water, but love fish. Go figure. So maybe the "wild cat" will eat the fish alive and end up back firing on them.

Well, that's the trick. The quarterback can always get the ball back. I've seen them do that many a time. So they already have an extra blocker in there and, on top of that, the defense can't stack the box to stop the run because they also have to respect the possibility that they can pass. The Dolphins now have a quarterback with a big arm to go along with a deep threat which is what makes the Wildcat so tricky to defend against.

ok , just saying how does Chad rate as a good arm, hes 10 up from last.

30 Chad Henne, QB MIA 124 74 59.7 771 6.22 67 4 3 14 78.4 154

there 's the next prime minister of Canada, PJ...

Right after I get Chiner in-line I'll start working on Canader.

Yeesh, I hope you have a much longer than normal life expectancy.

how many yards did the wildcat do against the jets? and they copied us.

No they didn't. They copied NO which sought to stop the wc by playing aggressive defense and going into their backfield, sending safeties in there. This appeals to Ryan's style of D.

All we did was improve our gap discipline, the 2nd time around- that I think is the genius of BB's thinking- he finds simple solutions to complex problems.

I think people will be disappointed this Sunday, they will want sexy blitzes and hot rushes, but we'll see only a few of them, if any. We'll mostly be in gap contain; just good solid defense.

Ugggh, The Saints. They're the New Coke to the 2003 Colts. Here's counting down the seconds until three weeks from now. You know it's bad when people are saying that the greatest defensive coach in NFL history is copying the defensive gameplans of Parcell's fourth OC.

but he will

It amazes me that in a league whose rules have allowed it to become primarily a passing league (Pats, Saints, Steelers, Indy, Houston, Arizona, SD, etc.) That a formation, primarily used to run, garners so much attention and success.

But you've kind of explained it all. Teams are set up to play against the pass, ergo the run works against pass-focussed defenses. We're used to seeing pass-pass-pass, ergo the run garners attention from analysts. I use the word "ergo", ergo I am a douche.

ergo BB fascination with the "hybrid" LB?

2008 Flashback : Dolphins unleash Wildcat @ Foxboro
Analysis + Videos:
Wildcat might have been tamed, but formation still has claws

I don't even need to see this video. Remember though, this was the first game the Dolphins ever used the formation and caught the Pats unprepared. The second time they met, they were and shut it down. I am sure there is very little that the Dolphins can do in that formation that the Pats won't be ready for. Doesn't mean they will shut it down, but it won't blindside them though.

Re: The Wildcat is cominng!!!!

Pat White was a monumental waste of a draft choice. We should've taken Clint Sintim in that spot. I can't stand it when we trot out White. Why go after an unpolished, run-first quarterback? When has that ever worked for anyone? Especially with Chad Henne sitting on the roster?

And then to tell me we took him to run the Wildcat? Ugh.

agreed. Not being bias or anything here, but you're not going to fool anyone when you have one and only job. Have they EVER passed with White in? It's nothing but run, run and run some more. Kind of hard to "surprise" anyone when people know why he'll be on the field.
