May 1 (Day 1)

We have no idea who the last cuts will be, so we deal with somewhat ideal roster.

OFFENSE (23)
We've kept more and we've had less at times, but I like 23 (I think we need 23). A good fullback is another receiver. For now I want
9 OL, 3 TE, 3 QB, 4 RB, and 4 WR's.

DEFENSE (19)

I would think that these 19 get 95% of the reps. Maybe aj or someon else can verify.

4 DE, 2 NT, 3 ILB, 3 OLB, 4 CB, 3 S.

These are our position players on defense. And there is competition for position spots.

SPECIALISTS (3)
K,P,DS

AND THEN THERE WERE EIGHT
To the degree that the position players above don't fill these, the needs are
1) gunners
2) kick returners
3) punt returners
4) other special teamers
5) additional backups
6) developmental players

The 16 players I have in these categories are:
Izzo, Mitchell, Jones, G.Scott, D. Davis
Pass, Andrews, Evans, B. Johnson, Childress
Smith, Klecko, Thomas
Mincey, Alexander, Roach

I think that any NFLE player, any UDFA will have to beat out these players to make the squad. I understand that injuries can happen, and competition is thin, but for most positions, I think we would go get a free agent jag instead of expected one of these to make it, if someone is injured. And yes, we occasionally we are surprised, but not enough to clog all the roster mocks with 15-20 players that have almost no chance to make the roster.

I expect us to pick up another 5-10 free free agents before the preseason starts. Obviously quarterback, linebacker, corner and wide receiver stand out as positions that need more competition.

The Pats have signed 9 or 10 UDFA and are at the maximum roster numbers allowed by the CBA. Are you saying that as many as all of them could be cut by the time training camp comes around and others signed?

Fascinatingly innovative approach!

But ive got to go off the air. Hope to pick this up manana.

Yes, before the preseason starts, several players now on the roster will be gone.
