The Patriots Should Not Change Their Business Model To Maximize The End Of The Brady

Re: The Patriots Should Not Change Their Business Model To Maximize The End Of The Br

Having lived in S. Florida at the tail end of the Shula/Marino era and the entire Jimmy and Danny/ Danny and Jimmy marriage....let me say this. Waiting for the stars to align is not much of a strategy. And lets face it, the success of the NE offense is at the mercy of a couple seemingly brittle pass catchers. I just don't see BB entering '14 in "cross your fingers" mode.
And then there is the legacy factor. Once called a dynasty... now compared with the Braves and the Marino Dolphins, no way BB just tweeks the roster going forward. After Spygate when the team's/his integrity was challenged, BB/Kraft acted boldly and decisively with a roster upgrade and a "suck it' bravado that took no prisoners. I fully expect a Suck It 2.0 to be in the making as we speak. Maybe the cap situation will be too limiting this year, but I fully expect an All In mentality in the very near future before Brady flies away from Gillette the final time.

I couldn't have said it better, Borg. I think it's time to put all the chips on the table.

I think the fan base would understand if there was a rebuilding phase after Brady/Belichick.

Re: The Patriots Should Not Change Their Business Model To Maximize The End Of The Br

When the pats won their super bowls they had a great defense and a good offense. The problem is with all the rule changes the NFL is geared more toward offenses now. This is a passing league. I am not going to sit here and say you need a juggernaut offense like the Broncos to win a super bowl but you need at least a decent offense and defense. Not one or the other.

Last few season the offense was better than the defense,. Now the defense is better than the offense. When they try and fix the defense the offense gets worse, when they try and fix the offense the defense gets worse. That cannot get a balance and it has been that way for years.

I am not going to say the defense was great on Sunday but they kept the best offense in NFL history 26 points. If they had a component offense they win the game. Instead Brady is forced to throw to Amendola and Edelman who are undersized slot receivers and should be 3rd options on most teams. Plus he has two rookie who were either injured, dropped balls or looked completely lost out there. Brady may not be the greatest long ball thrower but it would be nice if he had someone that may be able to make that catch once and a while.

If BB wants to keep the same model fine, that means he is staying the course which likely means the pats will make it to the playoffs then lose when they face a team that has a better defense or offense than they do. They can do this for 2 or 3 more seasons until Brady will retires. Then BB with all his picks can hope to get a QB half as good as Brady.

Why not go all in because the way I look at is that this team will be rebuilding when Brady retires in a couple of years anyway.
